Mental health and personality analysis

Postby jacob » Wed May 13, 2020 2:21 pm

Dr Todd Grande is a clinical psychologist who produces YouTube videos psychoanalyzing high-profile serial killers and other subjects. Here's his take on Zodiac: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzwEzK80B8E

Possible diagnoses other than sociopathy: narcissistic and schizotypal personality disorders.

I don’t want to take credit for this video, but I did email Dr. Grande a while back and inquired about his thoughts on the case. Perhaps this is his response to my email. Perhaps not.

Very interesting, although I tend to disagree with his findings.

I commented asking for a Zodiac video, I imagine there was a high demand.

Kinda disappointed tbh, I feel like I have heard the exact same thing from other experts who analyzed the case at some point in the last 50 years.

I find this kinda stuff interesting but feels very much like after 50 years this type of work has been exhausted.

Not helped by the subject being unidentified. But I think Dr Grande's thoughts are worth listening to as a synthesis of analysis over the years.

It also doesn’t help that he quoted mis-statements about the case, such as Darlene and Mike being pursued prior to the shooting. I also get the sense that a lot of psycho-pathology is related to sex and sexuality. Every psychoanalysis of Zodiac comes back to sexual sadism and hatred of women. I don’t see that in any of the evidence.

One point at least was interesting...that it was important for Z to brag to the police. This would indicate that he had some sort of special relationship to police, e.g. rejected or dismissed from service. Why else should he confront police that much, not even a regular criminal would do so.

Beyond just a fixation on the police, Zodiac seems to want validation from societal institutions in general, like the newspaper, or even specialist columns from specific writers. Z doesn't seem to care if he gets caught as much as he wants them to respect him. He in particular singles out authoritative men in these positions, even going back as far as sending a letter to Cheri Jo's dad (if you believe CJB letters were Zodiac). I theorize sometimes that Zodiac had some unresolved relationship issues with his dad - perhaps a dad who never saw him as measuring up or never praised him - and a dad who likely was a known community figure in a regarded societal institution. Zodiac wants to fill that gap of respect, that he was smarter than all of them, no matter how he gets it.

Hi,

I tried to watch but he said right off the
bat that Faraday was shot while in the
car and Darlene was chased. Stopped
watching after that.

The good news is that not everyone
thinks Zodiac was a sexual killer.
Top profiler Richard Walter states
in my book that Zodiac was a non-sexual
killer who killed for power.

He also said that Darlene and Mike were pursued until they crashed into a log. Also, Mike, he said that the reason Zodiac asked Stine to continue on to Wash and Cherry was that he “saw a man walking his dog” at Wash and Maple. Wonder where he did his research?
