Another example: 3898 Washington St. overlooks the crime scene, so this search reveals at least one person (Alex H. Von Hafften) who lived there circa 1969:

Yes, if we assume that there was no mistake and that the kid saw the killer, I'd say we may also assume that the kid could see the cab (and fairly well) from his or her house. It couldn't have been very far from the crime scene, in other words.

Alexander Henry von Hafften is listed at the house overlooking the Stine crime scene. His daughter Sebelle is also listed at the same address.

Alexander von Hafften's obituary lists his four children (including Sebelle):

Were any of them eight years old in October, 1969?

Sebelle's obituary mentions a surviving son Robert, the youngest of their four children. I found a Robert von Hafften, class of 1980: http://www.classmates.com/people/Robert ... 8742408581

If he graduated at age 18, that puts year of birth at around 1980 minus 18 = 1962, which makes him 7 or 8 when Stine was killed.

Excellent stuff.

Of course, what is interesting here (and very interesting too, I think) is the location of this witness. If it can be determined with some degree of certainty that an 8 year old actually lived in a house overlooking the scene at the time, then this is compelling in the sense that it should mean the witness we're talking about out very likely got a good look at Z - and recognized him (or thought so at the time).

The latter isn't the main thing - because we have to presume that Anthony was checked out of the case. But the former is of obvious interest: Z must have (if the premise is true - which must be stressed again) reminded the witness of Anthony, which is a pretty strong indication that Z actually looked like said person to some extent, at least on the night in question.

He is found here Robert Lathrop von Hafften aged 54. Assuming his birthday is later in year, he was still 54 in 2015.
2015-54 = 1961. Therefore 8 in 1969 is very likely.

Technical question: What's the potential status of this guy? If he is the witness in question, is there anything - legally - the matter with reaching out to him and ask if he's willing to share anything he may remember?
