Zodiac mentioned at Berryessa that he was an escaped convict from Deer Lodge. Nobody knows for sure why he mentioned that, and it's open to theory and speculation. HOWEVER,there is a group of 3 men that served time there, and who have come up as suspects in the Zodiac case.
DONALD LEE BUJOK-

VARIOUS LETTERS TO TE EDITOR FROM BUJOK:

He is perhaps the most interesting of the 3 guys. He wrote many letters to the editor of his local Montana Newspaper. One of which was about the Exorcist, and of course we know that Zodiac wrote a letter about the exorcist too. Bujok supposedly was a pretty disturbed prisoner who was doing time for murdering a police officer in the 1950's. He allegedly talked about slaves in the afterlife. Most interesting of all, is that Bujok was was parolled, and walked out of prison 3 days before the 12/20/68 Lake Herman Rd murders. On paper, this all looks rally compelling. However, looking closer, how likely and possible is it that Bujok, fresh out of prison would be able to make the trip to Vallejo, and did he have the means to do it? In addition,it would have been IMPOSSIBLE for Bujok to have written letters in the Bates case in Riverside, and writing expert Sherwood Morrill confirmed Zodiac wrote the Bates case letters. In addition, his prints DO NOT MATCH the print found on Stine's cab.
FRANK DRYMAN/ AKA FRANK VALENTINE-

SAMPLES OF DRYMAN'S WRITING(thanks to TAHOE27)

Here is a tidbit from his address book--later in life--I have more of this page of the address book, but there is personal info of others there:

One of Bujok's cohorts at Deer Lodge was Dryman/Valentine. One very interesting fact about him was that he had lived in Vallejo & Napa, and may have had Family there at the time of the Berryessa case. One glaring issue, is that he was still in prison for the 12/20/68 LHR murders.
EDWARD WAYNE EDWARDS-

Edward was a real bad guy, and was suspected of killing many people. Many of the cases he is suspected in, involved attacks on parked couples in lovers lane areas, and in fact, he was imprisoned for such murders. He lived in and around areas of CA. There are some people that think he was Zodiac. From what I have seen of his hand printing, it is not a match for Zodiac's. Edwards wrote a book which was his autobiography, and he mentioned serving time with a guy that claimed his victims would be "slaves in the afterlife". That guy was quite possibly DONALD (DON)BUJOK
EDWARDS WRITING: (Thanks to members NIN & LUKE68 for these)

These were 3 bad guys,no doubt about it.They all were confirmed to have a Deer Lodge background,so the fact that Zodiac mentioned that at Berryessa is certainly interesting. If there was ever the possibility of a zodiac 'team', then these 3 guys might be the best candidates to have been players on it.
