Sweet! This is one of my favorite threads on the entire site. Good find. I'm gonna re-read the entire thread to refresh my memory and then see if I can find anything further on John Verga.

If it is, this would be a really huge coincidence. Keating gets a letter from somebody calling themselves 'red phantom', and then a Relative of his(Darlene)is killed by Zodiac, who also calls himself Red Phantom.

Union Oil..... isn't there a possible connection between Zodiac and Union Oil? Thought I had read that somewhere.

If John Verga attended Albany H.S., which is very likely, then he had a classmate named Paul Avery. And the girls P.E. teacher was Pauline Toschi. More coincidental stuff to throw on the pile.

Yes James Owen witness to LHR worked there and a few others have theories that Zodiac possibly work there.

Owen worked at Humble Oil, but Union Oil has been mentioned before in the case

Maybe we can find out if she has children or grandchildren that we can reach out to and ask about John. Not sure why, but I have a feeling he was Pigeon Boy.

Yeah, weird coincidence with Fromme's attorney having the same name only with a slightly different spelling... The John Verga we are looking for is almost impossible to find online. I found a girl with the same name as his grand daughter, but their ages don't match up. I'm about to throw in the towel on looking for this guy. Can't even find a DOB or where he went to High School.

John Verga's mother had the name Nellan Dorothea Lopez when she died Sept 6 2001. Her obit ran in the San Jose newspaper Sept. 9,10,11, 2001. I'm not finding her obit online. Perhaps you can contact the library in San Jose and ask them to send you the obit. This should help you narrow down where John might be as obits usually list survivors and those that predeceased.
Nellan is a very unusual first name. I was able to figure out what happened to her just using her first name at Ancestry. John's father died in 1941.
