Paul Avery began working at the Chronicle in 1959. It's possible that he wrote the stories about the couple in 1962, 1963 and 1964. Later in the '60's he moved his family to Vietnam for a time. I will need to check the Chronicle microfilms!!!

Since I have the audio book version, I can not see any writing samples. The youtube ones look fuzzy and go by too fast.

The book is well planned, and apaprently researched. The author (in my audio book)reads the book aloud,and has an even clear voice. I personally prefer audiobooks to reading them myself. That being said, I am just finishing part 1 of 2, and it took me 5 hours to complete the 1st half. It's really drawn out, but I guess he was trying to give the full story's background. Now I hope we get to the zodiac links for part 2

I just posted at Tom's that this guy looks pretty similar to the unknown man photographed with Darlene Ferrin. The pic we have seen of him is from the 50's or early 60's. I wonder what he would have looked like with longer hair, and a bit older?

He mentioned Marshall as running a SF theater, and a comment he made about Anton Lavey. He makes it sound as if Darlene was flattered by Best's interest in here, but shows or proved no definite connection

Okay, now we are to the 100% speculation part of the book, with no proof or facts. Regarding the BRS attack,I quote:

"Van, holding a flashlight, got out and approached Ferrin's car. He shined the light into Michael's eyes, Van raised his 9mm semi auto and started firing, after Mageau was hurt, VAN turned his attentions towards Darlene"

He simply inserted Van's name instead of zodiac, with no proof or evidence, nor a back story of how Van came to know the Victims, etc.

This is totally baseless, and I hope the rest gets better and proves facts and not just wild accusations
