He was the publicist for that phony psychic DeLouise, who tried to shake down SFPD for some money in 1970. According to Butterfield he also spoke to Darlene's mother and after that she started that talk about Darlene predicting her own death--the "premonition."
Needless to say, any uncorroborated hearsay from the mouth of Mr. Harris (if this is the same person) purporting to have heard EVB utter an incredibly unbelievable and unlikely phrase is beyond useless.

That's it, Harris was the Guy that supposedly had a run-in with Z possibly in the Napa diner, but from his account, he never said the man was Van Best

Dear Friends,
Yes I am still alive. I was young and fearless in those days of hoping to catch the Zodiac Killer. I remember the morning I was waiting to meet Under Sheriff Tom Johnson of Napa, I was having breakfast directly across from where I was to meet Sheriff Johnson. A man walked into the diner. He said hello and then rocked my world when he said "Are you Chris Harris?" I hesitated for a brief moment. Time seemed to slow down and the man behind the counter in the diner disappeared. The man who asked for my name said he knew I was after the Zodiac Killer. He then said "Do you have any idea what it must be like to awake each morning, knowing you have to outsmart the police and the press? He started to cry. Needless to say I was freaking out. He stared right through me. He suddenly moved closer to me. It was like one of those old Mafia films where the people in the restaurant disappear and the guns arrive and start shooting. I ask for the man's name. He only gave me his first name as "Ben." He would not state his last name. When I ask a second time, he said "you really don't need that." I wanted to run out the diner. The man who kept asking me if I wanted a second cup of coffee, did not appear. "Ben" ask why I was so interested in solving the Zodiac Killings. I said "I represent a documentary film company." Actually I represented Joseph DeLouise the psychic. I was afraid to state psychic. Ben soon corrected me, he stated your lying "you represent that psychic." I was now ready to run to the bathroom. Ben seemed irritated and was taking the whole matter involving the Zodiac, very personal. Ben stood up and gave me a very threatening look. At that moment I said "well I think I had better run." I sincerely meant RUN. Ben did not say goodbye, he turned and walked out the diner. I went directly to Sheriff Tom Johnson across the street. I told him about the incident and believed I may have met the Zodiac Killer. Johnson told me he was going to put an all points bulletin out. I actually don't know if he ever did that. I was considered to be a major problem at that time. I was always asking questions. I was convinced early on that law enforcement had made many mistakes, mainly in the death of Darlene Ferrin. I still to this day stand by that charge. That charge being that in the ridiculous there are clues. Some individual with a web site declares I was wrong. I spent over a year involved with the Zodiac Killings. A cartoonist by the name of Robert Graysmith was always at my press conferences. In his book about the Zodiac he said people thought I was the Zodiac. They thought that because I was asking questions that the police were not asking and should have been asking. Graysmith did the best job he could do with his book. I know for a fact the late Joseph DeLouise gave Mr. Graysmith many of my notes and observations. What does it all mean? It means that law enforcement in Vallejo, Napa, and San Francisco did not share information. They were all overcome with ego to catch the Zodiac Killer and claim there victory. Perhaps if they had shared their data on a daily basis and left the press out of it, they might have reached a conclusion and apprehended the Zodiac Killer. Darlene Ferrin's mother told me the story that Darlene told her and that was "you might read about me in the newspaper tomorrow," and she did. I still believe that Darlene's death was a copycat murder made to appear as if it was Zodiac.
Respectfully,
Chris Harris

http://zodiackillertruth.forumchitchat. ... 6?trail=30Not once did he mention the Name, EARL VAN BEST, he only mentions, Z's name may have been 'BEN', and I think he posted this AFTER the book about VAN BEST was out.
Notice I outlined in
red what Harris claims the man told him- "Do you have any idea what it must be like to awake each morning, knowing you have to outsmart the police and the press?"
That sounds much different from the version he's telling now about the man telling him, "do you know what it's like to have to kill"
