Someone here mentions a red phantom comic existing in 1974...the red phantom letter was in 1974, too:

Could not find the comic yet, however. And there still was the 'El Espectro Rojo' movie playing in 1974..

I was not able to find 1974. But this confirms that it existed in 1976. I'll do some more research to see.
