The thumbtacks give me pause. Were they added by someone for "artistic effect?" Rather odd.
I'd rather just see the evidence than someone's Photoshop 'skillz' myself...

I wondered about that as well but couldn't be bothered asking lol. It makes sense as I thought there was slight vignetting/dot pattern on the scan which would be due to the course screen of the printing from, as you suggest, an encyclopedia.

I have posted somewhere about the little specks on the mail I have from my poi and that I'd seen online and on a paper he had when I last saw him and asked what it was. He relied it was spittle from his chewing gum and these specks are visible here at the very top of this envelope! They look like little black dots here, similar to pepper and I've seen them on other mailings. They vary in size but not a whole lot and I think some look like they could be tiny flecks of water.
