Somehow, it seems that Z could have had some flood/rain/boat leakage whatever problems in real life during that time.
There was a lot of rain, some flood control discussions, strong surf ect. in eg. Oxnard during that time (including some 'swamp'). Nevertheless I still couldn't figure out (according to newspaper articles) what Z had actually referred to when writing this sentence. Anybody got some idea (based on 'facts')?
