--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I got home I didn't think much more about what had happened, except I thought maybe my ex husband had hired a hit man to get rid of me. He didn't want to pay child support, and my death would stop that. That is almost laughable, because I was asking only $75.00 per month !
I sure as heck didn't think about some serial killer wanting me to join his other victims in "Paradise".
It was soon after that night the news of two teenagers being shot out at Lake Herman in Benicia was in the news.
At first the police thought is was a drug deal that went bad, then they found that they were very good people.
Three months later in March of 1969 , I was working at the Melody club. The drinks there, were only 25 cents durring happy hour. So it was pretty busy, and I had a tall plain coke which was kept full for me to sip though out my shift.
I was there for only about one hour ,when I had a very strange feeling come over me. Looking back at everything that has taken place in my life, I now wonder if something could have been put in my coke ? I told the bartender that I wasn't feeling well, and a police officer I knew had stopped in to see that everything was ok. I told him that I was feeling ill and had a hard time standing up. I felt very dizzy. He walked outside and put me in his squad car. I am not sure why he went back into the club. Whe he came out he had a cold towel, but I had fainted and the cold twel seemed to help. He raced me to the emergency at Kaiser Hospital.
I was told that I was having a stroke, and they gave me a shot of something . My fist were closed and I couldn't open them, that was a scary feeling !
I don't remember how I got home, and I slept it seemed for two days. After that I was just fine, and went back to work. Four months later my father died on July first 1969 unexpectedly . He had gone in to the hospital for a hernia operation, he was to come home the next day. I received the news at a bar that my husband and I leased in Vallejo.
We closed the bar that night , my husband , the children and I went to Walnut Creek to be with my mother.
We stayed with my mother until after the funeral ,which was on the 5th of July 1969. When I got home I had heard that another couple was shot, this time at Blue rock Springs on the night July 4th. I read or heard that the young boy survived, and gave a description of the killers car. The car sounded just like the one that followed me just about 7 months before. I phoned the Napa police dept. and explained to the woman who answered. I told her about my encounter with a man who drove a car that sounded just like the killers car in Vallejo.
I said that the two officers on duty that night must have written a report about it ,and that the other officer went to talk to the man, so they should have his name in the report. She went to look for that report, and told me that the report showed I was followed, but no mention of the man the other officer spoke to. Thinking back on that night , there had to have been two reports, and she only saw the one.
My husband was a night owl, and seldom was home. He like to hang out with his guy friends , drink and play dice.
Sometimes he would stay out all night and come home in the morning, this put a strain on the marriage. I told him I wanted a divorce, and we agreed to stay in the home until we could afford to live apart. I remember I was talking to my next door neighbor and enjoying the sunny day, when my soon to be ex said to me : Who in the world would steel a clothes line ? We all laughed about it and I went to see for my self. Sure enough a good part of my clothes line was gone ! It was kept down the right side of my home , for me to hang my baby's diapers on, and for hanging the sheets on. We had 3 or 4 rows of line, the only parts missing was where I didn't have anything hung. ( That was thoughtful of whom ever took it.)
