Re: Ford Zodiac - I believe that's just ever so slightly just a wee tiny bit tenuous. And stupid. The guy was importing sports cars like Jags, Austin Healey's (later Jensens), MGB's and so on, from Europe into the US. Would he be re-importing a UK-spec AMERICAN car into the US? I suspect not. Even if it weren't a dreadful POS, and quite obviously NOT a sportscar.

Never mind that. The big thing for me is that I've never been able to figure out why this guy was out walking his dog, unless he was, uh, out walking his dog.

Did he shoot Stine in the head, go into his house, change out of his (inevitably bloodstained) clothes, put his dog on a lead, and come back onto the street?
Is that what we are suggesting happened?
Or did he have the dog in the cab with him, and the kids didn't see it? (And was the dog blood stained, too then, while they stood around on the street?)
I don't get it.

By the way, if I was out walking my dog, in my very up-town area, and a bunch of police cars came squealing up with their lights flashing, I might stand in a driveway and look around to see what was going on, personally. I'm quite nosey. I'd want to tell them "No, I haven't seen anything" too, just to fulfill my public duty. And of course, because I'd be entirely innocent of any wrong-doing.

I do like that he wrote to the newspapers though, including the Chronicle. That I like.

I don't suppose it matters whether you spent your day at the office or spent your day hunting and killing cab drivers. Once you get home, poor puppy would still need to go for a walk to do his business as soon as you get home. Otherwise he's going to do something nasty on that $75,000 rug.

So, to answer your question, sure.

No Gluk, I believe that no rug was ever pissed upon by Kjelle's Poodle, never happened. I have been reliably informed that K-9 pooch Poodle's residing in Pacific Heights have their own en-suit rest room and Kjelle's pooch was awarded its own gymnasium and fitness coach.

"Re: Ford Zodiac - I believe that's just ever so slightly just a wee tiny bit tenuous. And stupid."

So speculating that the killer called himself 'Zodiac' because he was a fan of Astrology is plausible, but the idea that the offender took his name from a type of vehicle that was manufactured in 1968 is 'stupid'? Please do enlighten me Smithy as to why it's 'stupid' to speculate that the alias 'Zodiac' was inspired by a model of vehicle that was produced and manufactured around the same time 'He' appeared?

'Cos the dear old Zodiac's a British model of Ford matey. And no - it's no smarter to presume an astrological connection either, in my valuable personal opinion, since there's a marvellous watch with exactly the right trademark and logo to look at.

Yes there is a Zodiac watch I agree, but Qvale wasn't a watch maker, he was a British Vehicle Importer. I am not saying he imported Ford Zodiac's, I'm simply saying if anyone would likely have knowledge, or be an admirer of Ford Zodiac's, it's Qvale because he specialised in British Vehicle Importation.

Nor am I suggesting he's obviously Zodiac because of it. It's just one circumstantial fact that can be pointed to in relation to Qvale. I mean you yourself have said on other threads regarding Hal Snook "Well, he was at the scene, wasn't he?" And I fully agree with you on that. But wasn't Kjell Qvale in the immediate vicinity of the Stine Murder Scene also? I personally don't think it's 'stupid' to give several reasons, albeit circumstantially, to support the idea of Qvale possibly being Zodiac.

WC - Yes, you're right about Mr Qvale, case closed, let's go home.

Glad you agree. I have already convinced myself that your comment above is genuine, sincere and literal and not at all sarcastic. :-) (Grins)

But for the record (if we are keeping one *shrugs*) I don't think Qvale is Zodiac. I said Hals writing is the best likeness to that of Z's in my unprofessional opinion, I've also said Rick Marshalls writing is very similar. I am looking at it objectively and not zeroing in on one suspect with tunnel vision and decide 'case closed.'
