It's not inside diameter, it's the distance from the inside of one tire tread to the opposite side inside tire tread, that's my understanding of how they measured, and yes, different sized tires can change that. The car at LB had mismatched tires, badly worn.

Another thing that can change it is wheel spacers, which a lot of Sunbeam owners like to use to give it a wider track, for looks, fills out the wheel wells better, and also a bit better feel for the road. It might be a more recent thing however and there is no way of knowing if Harvey's Sunbeam had them.

wait , i read you correctly right? the tracks left at the crime scene had mismatched tires?

And i concur everything else you said curious regarding the vehicle.

It's my understanding the tires were a different width, also different treads and showed considerable wear. It indicated a vehicle that wasn't well maintained.

no it doesn't. from my notes:

"Knife with sheath on right side, near front of his trousers. Knife description: 12" bread knife, 3/4" wide, hardwood handle, 2 brass rivets, cotton surgical tape wrapped 1" around handle. "

Yeah, that is obviously not the knife used at LB. Pretty sure Hartnell would have noticed that.

That's a great discovery. The car matches the witness descriptions and it looks to match the police reports too. And in the photo, it would seem that he was working on it himself so that leads to the belief that it wasn't well maintained. Those mismatched front tires are the main giveaway. No question.
