That said...if Harvey was the Tarbox suspect he might have said "I killed those kids because society is killing babies with abortion every day", or something to that effect.

Either way, his family connection to the merchant navy is interesting.

Well, I didn't hear anything there, he seemed friendly and joking.

Here are a couple more pages from his files I found odd.

I finally looked into the tire width thing. The width between the tires of the suspected Zodiac car at LB was 52 inches from inside of tire to inside of tire. These are the tire tracks found behind Hartnell's car.

I don't know what year Harvey's Sunbean was, or what type, so I used the specs I found from a 1963 Sunbeam Alpine. They give tire track measurements, which I understand to be measurement from the middle of each tire. The Sunbeam shows 51 inches front and 48.5 back.

That seems to rule out a 63 Sunbeam for leaving the tracks, but I'm not real confident in those numbers.

It's a good bit of researching none the less and seemingly on a logical basis does rule the car out if we assume other year models were probably very similar in design.

But ultimately finding out who did what on a micro scale 50 years ago can't always be known.

Yeah, again, the goal is to see if Harvey meets minimum criteria to make him a viable suspect. I think this is fairly accurate but there are unknowns, like exactly what type and year of Sunbeam Harvey drove. I went with 63 because that was the only one I found, but that is a Sunbeam Alpine. If he had a Sunbeam Tiger it could be different, year model could effect it too.

I'm not even confident on those measurements, we can't be sure everyone measures tire track the same. Sometimes you just get bad information. The other day Sandy and I were looking for the height of 63 Corvairs and found two different numbers, so it's hard to be sure. There are enough possibilities here that I don't think it settled, but I'm going to err on the side of caution and say his car is ruled out.

Not finding the exact track for the 69 Alpine Fastback, but it was slightly wider than the other Alpines.

I'd have to look at the photo again, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fastback. But then, it might not have been Harvey's Sunbeam, might have been someone else's.

OK, so here's the photo. It's not a '63, it's at least a '65 since it has the square front parking lights/blinkers, '63 were round.

Am I right that those two front tires are mismatched, one wider than the other? That's interesting if so.
