In reading over the Paul Stine death certificate, I noticed that he had a BAC of .02%. This struck me as odd as, although that isn't the highest, it is high enough to impair judgement and the fact that he was a cab driver, I would have assumed that any amount would be considered bad.

I didn't see mention of this anywhere so maybe it's not as odd as I think but I thought it was an interesting bit of information.

Drinking & driving wasn't particularly taboo before the 1980s (some states didn't make it illegal till the '90s), although Stine wouldn't be considered legally drunk by today's standards.

Also, IIRC, he originally wasn't supposed to work that night. I wonder how that might play into "Z in the front seat," if Stine normally didn't allow passengers to sit in the front...maybe he was in a more relaxed state of mind than usual.

Paul Stine's Alcohol Blood Level was 0.02% and that is NOT a problem when driving.

As far as I remember, Paul Stine was at some kind of family gathering/party, maybe his sisters birthday?, when he was called in as an extra at his taxi job, it was not a schedule workday for him, so I guess he had a single bear/drink there before he was called in.

The one thing I can find is an old chat transcript from (what I am guessing is Tom Voigt's board, you'll correct me if I'm wrong) with Carol, Paul's younger sister. In it she states that Paul did not drink as to her knowledge, although he was admitted to rehab for drugs, and that she does not know where he was that night before being called in. I'll post a link to that as well.

I would be very interested to know where he was that night before going in to drive his cab. And especially if he really didn't drink like his sister claims, the alcohol in his system might be telling of something. She did state that she thought Paul knew his killer.

" Paul was no longer working for Yellow cab the night he was killed. There was to be a party to celebrate Paul's hiring at Stanford. However, a friend at Yellow cab asked Paul to cover his shift and the rest is history."

Thank you for finding that. I'm not trying to argue with you Foreigner, and I'm not doubting Tom or Paul's nephew in saying that he was at a party, I'm just saying that what his sister says and what his nephew says might be in contradiction (just like so many other things in this case). It's all very interesting, in any case, and it would be nice to get verification one way or the other. If it was a family party, however; it would seem like neither of his sisters were there celebrating with him.

Sometimes family thinks they know someone.

Of course...we know his brother and sister had Paul committed to a mental institution.

Is a small amount even for 1960's standards. Plus my wild guess is BAC levels was not very high on list back in them days as today standards are. Country sure advanced lot from them days.

Just a idea that I happen notice in my grandmothers autopsy report where I asked myself. What is going on here ?? until this was explain to myself.

This a case we may never know the real true story, but I happen know this strange fact & put it up on here just in case. My guess you need take in account from time of death & body heat index time period until time of autopsy samples taken.
