Nach, do you know who made that sketch and when? Someone asked me about it, whether Fouke contributed to it? etc. and I didn't know anything about it, just that it was in that documentary.

I actually think that may be an uncirculated sketch. There is an old archival news story or documentary in which they are speaking to Inspectors at SFPD, and they show their work area, desk, etc. That very picture is hanging on the wall behind them. Don't hold me to this, but I think the video I am thinking of has Dave Toschi in it...anybody else remember it?

The only place I could find a sketch similar to it was at a site that was pro-Jack Tarrance and that sketch had glasses on. What it looked like to me is the sketch was taken from a video where the filming had elongated the face and was more of an artifact of capturing the image than an actual composite.

The sketch seems likely to have been based on Fouke's description for a number of reasons. Firstly, Fouke stated openly from the time the original sketch was released that the man was "Older & Heavier" than he appears is the circulated composite and this sketch certainly has the suspect appearing more in the 35-45 age range. Secondly, Don said the suspect had more of a widows peak hairline than the original composite shows, and this sketch clearly shows a widows peak hairline. Wikipedia's article on "Widows Peak" states: A widow's peak is a V-shaped point in the hairline in the center of the forehead.

As far as I'm aware, that sketch was created for one of the Zodiac documentaries, and does not date from the actual Zodiac era.

We know it appeared in the 2008 'This is the Zodiac Speaking' documentary, and I agree that it was most likely created then for that documentary. Had it been a sketch that was not circulated to the general public someone would have come across it in some file or other. Also, if they had created this back in 69 based on Fouke's description then you'd assume they have circulated it either with, or instead of, the one that we all know today.

The thing that has always bothered me about the Pacific Heights Composite is it's nothing like Mike Mageau's 'Large round faced' assailant that Mike described Zodiac as having. Hartnell also put his attacker in the 200lbs plus range, saying he could have been as much as 250. Mageau also states his attacker was real beefy, solid build and 195 - 200lbs at the very least (says it could be more). Mageau recalls the shooter had a large, rounded and full face. So should we expect the suspect in the Pacific Heights sketch to appear heavier than he does? Yes, according to Don Fouke.

Don Fouke, speaking about Dave Toschi, said "I never spoke to Toschi that I personally remember. He may have been the Inspector who came out and asked me about the composite drawing and I told him the suspect was older and heavier."

There is no way of knowing beyond all doubt if Don's recollection of Zodiac is more accurate than the three teens was but when you compare what other witnesses said of Zodiac's description, namely his weight and size, Don's observation seems to have merit and suggests that the sketch we have all become accustomed to over the years is actually very inaccurate. The man below, going by his slim, almost gaunt facial structure, doesn't look anything like the 'big, beefy guy' with a round face Mageau describes, nor the 'Bulky looking' offender described by Cecelia before she passed away.

Who created the color painting of both of the sketches? I've seen them floating around I'm just not aware of the source of them. Also I remember Trav making a 3d model of the sketch did he ever finish it and post it? He posted about it on Mike B's site.

You mean this one...

That sketch above isn't the official composite from the Wanted poster, it's a sketch that appears in the 2007 Documentary, it's origins still debatable.
