Deer Lodge Escape July 1968 - 12-15 convicts escaped

I haven't found anything on this here, but the Deer Lodge Prison had either 12 or 15 prisoners escape at different times in July of 1968. Here are a couple of the articles I have found with some names mentioned but have not found any stating that all escapees were caught.

Whoops....meant to include that. Yes they are.....

The first came from The Montana Standard in Butte, July 18, 1968 and the second was from The Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell from July 15, 1968

Now the part I find particularly interesting is this:



It says this guy took a hostage, tied her up, blind folded her, stole 3 high-powered rifles and I can't find anything on him being re-captured.

I found a couple of more articles about this incident -- as of July 26th, Kelly was recaptured, but Harold Bates, the last unrecaptured escapee, was still missing. Also, the "mystery man in hills"!

Haven't seen that one, but one of the articles I posted earlier has a conflicting number of 15 escapees.

Yeah, I noticed that...and the papers often get things wrong, though I don't think LE would state that all were recaptured if they weren't (?).
