Maybe the initial dispatch for PH was right lol.
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Z was a butch looking black woman. Quite likely with a great, if somewhat sinister, sense of humor.
Seriously, though - I agree: The sketches
could represent the same man, but then again they
could represent two completely different men - and if they do represent the same man, the two artists clearly came from two very different schools of composite drawing. And neither sketch is anatomically correct for my money.

Yes, the people who did the two composites were from two very different schools. The SF composite was done by a trained artist, Morales who worked as a sketch artist for the SFPD. The LB sketch was done with the aid of an Identi-Kit by Robert McKenzie who worked for the Napa Register. Scroll the picture down for the caption.

I'm for the following from St. Helena to Berryessa. Curious how it is thought that the guy seen by the three girls is thought to have been there before Hartnell & Shepard? I always looked at it as he followed them from Helena, lost track of them some how and, searched the beach area for them which is how the girls came to spot him. He leaves, spots the car, parks up ahead and walks from where the doctor sees him. Keep in mind that my work has been more about the letters and not so much about the victims. So I don't know a whole lot about each individual case.

Soze,
The three girls were there earlier when they encountered the man they describe. Read it closely--VERY similar to what Bryan & Cecelia experience; he parked above, came down to them. Same description Bryan gives: size, hair, cloths, and one girl describes what she thought was a white belt, etc.
http://www.zodiackiller.com/LBReport8.htmlNo proof Bryan and Cecelia were followed. They had actually planned to go to S.F., and decided last minute (since it was getting late) to go to Berryessa.
Well, as far as that one individual seen by the girls, I suppose that could show he couldn't have followed BH & CS from St. Helena. Do we know when BH & CS arrived at Berryessa? Did they stop anywhere along the way to Berryessa?

They were observed by two witnesses (who knew Hartnell) going south on Knoxville Rd (approx. one mile south of the Lake Berryessa Marina) at around 5:15 PM. Bryan waved to them as he drove by. I read that just yesterday, as it happens, looking for something else.
Strikes me now that I'm not clear on precisely when they left for LB, whether they stopped anywhere else, or precisely when they arrived at "Zodiac Island". I don't recall it being brought up in the interviews with Bryan either - but I could be wrong about that.
Have to read the reports - yet again. Could be that he simply didn't remember exactly when they left/arrived.

Well. It would appear clear, since they left at 2 pm and were seen arriving at 5:15 pm, they stopped somewhere along the way. Do we have much to go on in terms of their property at the crime scene? I remember reading about playing cards. Could there have been something to eat? Maybe something to drink?

And, by the way, where is quicktrader through all this?

The police report has a list of what evidence was gathered on a couple of pages-
http://www.zodiackiller.com/LBReport17.html and the following page.
Items #4 and #5 that have been redacted are reported to be condoms.
Additionally, there was a picture in the Napa Register of a box of evidence that was taken from the crime scene. Not the best picture but it does give you an idea of the amount of things that were collected.

Yep, that would be all the items mentioned. No indication they brought any food or drink.
They left St Helena around 2PM - or rather, that's when they were last seen by witnesses. Were then observed around 5:15 at LB, roughly a mile south of the marina (how far is this from Zodiac Island, btw? I mean, time wise, not as the crow flies?)
It's a bit puzzling that we don't know these details - IF we don't know them, that is - because surely BH must remember roughly what they did prior to arriving at the crime scene. Isn't this mentioned anywhere? In later interviews, perhaps? I can't remember at the moment and I don't have said interviews ready at hand.

Thanks, but I meant the later, Fincher era interviews.
The hospital interviews don't seem to include any details beyond deciding to go to LB (because it was too late to go to SF).
The question would be what they did between 2 PM and 5.15 PM - exactly. Seems they can't have headed straight for LB.
When you read the interview, you get the impression they went straight from St Helena (after having dropped off their friends) to LB (that is, to Zodiac Island), but that doesn't seem to fit. It doesn't take more than three hours to drive from SH to LB (one mile south of the marina), surely?
EDIT They clearly spent some time looking for a place - some place Bryan had been to before - at the lake. Then decided to just park anywhere - which turned out to be (above) Z Island. Question is how much time was spent driving around looking for this other place.
