Also, Cecelia was up for the weekend from southern California and Bryan had come down from Oregon. It was just the beginning of the semester and neither were around for the July 4th attack and the letters that came right afterwards. There was only one August letter and that was in the first week, there were no September letters. It is not surprising to me at all that Cecelia and Bryan didn't have a clue about Zodiac and I bet it was very disappointing to Zodiac.

Good points both of you.

Which brings me to the point of wondering why he didn't come right out and say he was Zodiac...to them, LE on the phone or write it on Bryan's car door. He had used Zodiac in the August letter so he had taken on that persona.

Well Nach said 'i'm not surprised they didn't recognise Zodiac...' to which you replied by elaborating further that 'Also, Cecelia was up for the weekend and Bryan was had come down from Oregon' as to offer further reasoning why Zodiac wouldn't have likely been recognised. As I've said many times over, I'm fine with people disagreeing with me, and I fully expect them to because this is a discussion forum relating to an unsolved case and because the offender(s) are still unknown, along with his/their motive, much of what will be posted is likely to be speculation and theory. There is no need to get defensive Seagull, I wasn't being offensive. All I was doing was pointing out that I never mentioned what likelihood there was him being recognised, nor questioned why he wasn't because that was never the point.

I agree with you on that statement. The Zodiac was very arrogant and sure of himself. I'm sure he felt that having the symbol on the hood was enough for them to know who he was, afterall, HE was in the news. But that would be his opinion. Doesn't necessarily mean that the victims would know and I think it might be obvious they didn't.

My thought on the topic is that it seems to be a rare glimpse of Zodiac as human being rather than super-villain. He may have appeared calm wiping down Stine's cab or walking away from the scene but he could also easily have been on the verge of peeing his pants... or under the influence of something. At Lake Berryessa, he knew he was going to have to have much closer interaction with his victims and control them rather than just shoot people and walk or drive away. A lot could go wrong. I think he was probably just flat out nervous about what he planned to do out in open space, the possibility of something going wrong and the fear of getting caught.
