Darlene Ferrin had a Mrs Alice Winder (nee Simpson) in her phonebook who lived in Sebastopol (same little town just west of Santa Rosa where Fred Manalli lived)
Alice Winder was an old lady in 1969, 82 years old, she was born 1887, and she died in 1987, 100 years old.
I wonder what relationship Darlene had to that old lady?

Well I just found out!!!
Alice Winder and her husband Willis N Winder seem to have been was some kind of fosterparents to Darlene Ferrin's father Leo Suennen, that is if I understnad the "ward" thing right.
Please let me know if I misunderstod that.

I found a 1940 record where Leo Suennen, as he was 13 years old, was listed as "ward" in the Winders Sebastopol household.

So it seems like that Alice Winder might hvae been some kind of grandmother to Darlene.
Now wheter Darlene had close contact with Alice Winder or not I don´t know, but she sure had her name and address in her phonebook.

Long time ago I started out researching The Winder's due to that they were in DF's phonebook (I have researched most of them) but not until today I found the link to Darlenes father Leo Suennen.

And I have always been interested in the possible Zodiac connection to the SR murders.
Add to that, that I have known for some time that Capt Marty Lee belived that Zodiac lived in or near Santa Rosa.
And of course Fred Manalli living in Sebastopol and working at Santa Rosa Junior College and the fact that belongings to SR murders victim Kim Allen was found in Manalli's house, drawings of Kim Allem made by Manalli, Kim Allen also attended Santa Rosa Junior College etc..

Leo SUENNEN, JR.

Leo Suennen, Jr. at the age of 83, passed away early on the morning of June 18, 2009, with his loving and devoted wife by his side.

He would want to be remembered for all the wonderful things he took pride in constructing, and the knowledge he shared of the stock market to anyone willing to engage in a conversation with him.

He was born on June 15, 1926 in Oakland, CA. At the age of sixteen he went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA as an apprentice. His job was held while he served in the U.S. Navy. During his tour of duty he met and married Norma Jean Hightower "Jeannie" of Texas. They returned to Vallejo and he resumed work for Shop X38 as a machinist. They had ten children and were married for 35 years until she suddenly became ill and passed away. He then met and remarried a wonderful woman Mary Smith. She has been his loving partner and soul mate since 1982 and rarely were apart from one another. He retired after 43 years of Civil Service with honors. They moved to Fernley, NV and built their dream house.

Leo was preceded in death by his oldest daughters, Darlene Ferrin of Vallejo, CA and Linda Bowman of Stockton, CA and his first born son, Leo Suennen, III. He is survived by his caring wife, Mary (three Pomeranians) and his children, Pamela Huckaby of Sandy, OR, Kris Chambers of Sparks, NV, Leo Suennen, IV of Vallejo, CA, Frank Suennen of San Diego, CA, Johanna Suennen of San Diego, CA and numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV with burial to follow. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Walton Sparks Funeral Home in Sparks, NV

Don't forget, in Santa Rosa, a man followed a few women closely trying to get them to pull over. This was a few days before the Johns incident. The police pulled him over,and he was supposedly in his 20's and from Vallejo.

Yes and Kathleen Johns was on her way to see her mother, when she was abducted, and her mother lived in Petaluma, Ca, which is ca 17 miles south of Santa Rosa/Sebastopol.

I also remember that Kathleen Johns, in some interview, stated that the kidnapper (Zodiac) expressed somthing to the effect that he knew somthing about the area where Kathleen was heading, that I assume beeing the Petaluma/Santa Rosa/Sebastopol area.
Also, in the same interview, KJ said that the man said somthing like that he was driving around in between jobs, or somthing to that effect.

Somone have that info?, I can´t find it in my files right now, but I´m 99.99% sure of that the info excist.

From what I got was that the Driver spoke in a controlled fashion as though he was attempting to control even the modualtion or tone of his voice.He would suddenly speak and then stop.
At first,KJ tried to promote a conversaion all of which in the begining went fairly well.
He had asked where she was going and she said Petaluma and he said he 'knew' about that city.She asked what he did for a living and he told her that he would 'work for a time then drive for long periods of time.'He also in response to her question as to 'what city' they saw in the distance that is was Tracy.K could see the city lights at one point.

Then silence.After he kept driving for some time failing to stop at a station K asked him in a sarcastic tone 'do you always go around helping people like this?'He said in a flat tone of voice that 'when I get through with them they don't need any help.'

In the report this statement made it in there,but many seem to ignore that the Officer wrote that the stranger made "other"similar "and "strange"remarks,BUT does not reproduce them.So K did tell the Officer about the driver's 'other' remarks,but they never made it in the report just as she told me.

Note BH said that Z spoke in a flat tone and one had to force conversation as did Johns.FYI
