I think, to respect Quicktrader's thread topic, I'll start a thread discussing Cane's potential residence etc in Kane's own thread space. Anyone who wishes to contribute, or sould I say disagree completely lol, can come over and and discuss it. (Smithy, I am insisting you appear there to debate the issue because as we both agree, nothing inspires me more to argue a point than knowing that my antagonist is English (hehe).

This pages for this letters are missing:

B,I,L,N,Q,T,U,V,X,Y

WHY are they missing?

Would this necessarily be sinister, though?

Quick last update, this is quite relevant to the address book and it's listing of 'Dave Pond'.

I have just come across the thread I was referencing and I will copy that which is relevant to ' L Cane & D Pond directly below:

"The guy's name was Dave Pond, and he certainly did live there around 1969; Sandy and I looked into that a bit several months back, but never came to any conclusions other than it might have been coincidence. Hines claims Kane lived at 217 Eddy Street in the "Clark Hotel," but we were not able to verify if he lived there at all. It was actually called the Clark Apartments, and it's only 2 blocks from 455 Eddy, where there was an L.C. Cane who lived in apartment 1109 in 1965-66, then a Laurence V. Cave from 1966-74. If Kane really did live on Eddy Street, it had to have been at 455, since that was the only person with a name resembling Kane's living within several blocks of that area in 1969. So, it turns out Pond and Kane lived only two floors apart, not two blocks.
That doesn't mean that Kane isn't guilty of committing any other crimes; I think he's a very likely suspect in the Lass and Lull cases. I just don't think he's the Zodiac. "

I'm nowhere near convinced Darlene had any idea who her killer was. Maybe it's just me.

Well there no way to prove either way of Dee knew her killer or not. But I've always wondered why she and Mike ended up at Blue Rock Springs when they were supposed to be out looking to purchase Fireworks. But they end up in a dark car park when Zodiac finds them. It is just as likely that Dee had been told, for whatever reasons only she knows, to go to BRS to meet someone. That maybe why she told Mike she wanted him to go with her much earlier, but Dee or a 3rd party couldn't get hold of the person Dee wished to meet until fairly late, and that would explain why she showed up at Mikes and he left seemingly in a hurry to go with Dee. Mike's version is that the killer came into the lot twice, the first time Mike says he (Killer) just seemed to watch them before leaving. Then returned several minutes later and opened fire. What if the first time the killer pulled in, he and Dee had an altercation and he sped off in anger at what she had just said. He drives a short distance to a house or location where his gun is and grabs it and heads back to BRS?

Okay, if they went to meet someone out at BRS to buy pot or something, I'd wager it wasn't some large amount. So, some drug dealer decided to start shooting customers for small amounts of money? Doesn't seem plausible, but I guess one never knows. Well, maybe it was a jealous boyfriend? Maybe, but he sure went to a lot of trouble by killing other innocent people to cover it up. Possible, I suppose.

I think they probably went out there to make-out or score some weed. While they were busy or waiting on someone, Zodiac saw a car by itself, took the opportunity and did his thing. Just my opinion, but that seems more logical.

Well the dealer may have been infuriated by Darlene having bought Mageau along, that maybe why he first pulled in, observed Darlene for a short time, before leaving. Maybe he was trying to see who the second person in her vehicle was, and when he didn't recognize him, sped away in absolute anger. Dealers don't like to do deals when there are people present they do not know.
Or maybe it wasn't drugs. Maybe, as the rumours have long persisted, Darlene had reason to fear a certain man because she knew something she shouldn't and maybe that night she had had enough and arranged to meet this man to threaten that if he didn't back off then she'd go to the law with what she knows, and this accounts for Mageau's presence that night, hoping it would deter any violence or harm directed at her. This could be what Darlene said was important and needed to talk to Mike about?

Then there were the strange phone calls to Dee's home shortly after the murder. I can't accept that these calls were simply coincidence and were noting to do with Dee's murder, but that is only my opinion. If it were the killer calling, how would he know Darlene's home number? Even to look her number up in a phone book he'd need to know her name first.

Unless someone convinces me that they were buying/selling pounds of weed out there (which rarely goes on at a park frequented by teenagers and cops), I'm just not going to buy the whole drug dealer shot their customer over a dime bag of weed. I'm not saying it's impossible, of course, but I'm not buying.

If Darlene decided to go confront some crazy dude in a secluded area with the one of the smallest persons she could find (Mike), then she wasn't very smart.

Here's another thing. I'm not convinced that there were any mysterious phone calls to Darlene's home. Not in the police report. Dean's parents are in the police report as having received calls, but not Darlene's family or home. I also don't really have any reason to believe the whole "saw something she shouldn't have". I don't know if I should say this or not, but it seems someone in that family has an active imagination. Just my opinion, and not meant to ruffle feathers.
