I'm also curious as to the source of the information. There is so much detail.

I don't think you need to name names necessarily, but how did you come to find out there was a sign that read "dangerous animal", etc? Was there a photograph, or something, or is this just coming from word of mouth?

i think it important to know so we know if this is factual, ya know?

I have to go back thru my records, but I think the classmate of Cheri Bates that was living in Vallejo during the Z crimes, married a woman who was a school teacher. I think she was a nursery school teacher but can't remember.

Why don't you guys contact the school, or the library, and see if they had any type of yearbook for that nursery school

A nursery school yearbook? That'd be a first for me. :)

I did find a lady with who worked at a "Castlewood Pre-School" through the Castlewood Baptist Church - just around the corner from where Betty Lou lived. Says she went there for 40 years. (you'd like the front of the church---it's on Georgia St....probably didn't look like that then). Her name was Alice Zachary - husband Harl E. (lol)

They lived in a house just down the road from both crime scenes just off Columbus Pkwy. Looks like they were at that particular house in '74 when they opened their painting business...the house was built in '68, so they may have lived in it then as well. If so, right in their backyard...bet they remembered the case well.

Ok...NOT saying either of the Zacharys were Zodiac, just that they were in the area and she was apparently involved with the pre-school/nursery (if the same one). The have both since passed, but I have their daughters info and might ask her if she knows anything about the school. Why not aye?

Tahoe... "Aye..?"

It's a nice report, this, and gives some good insight into the goings-on in Vallejo around the July 4th celebration, and Darlene's part in it (potentially, if not proven).

I'm not sure about the ferocious tiger stuff, personally, but It certainly seems like the continued references to "buttons" in the 1970 letters:
April 28th 1970 "I would like to see some nice Zodiac butons wandering about town"
June 26th 1970 "They have not complied with my wishes for them to wear some nice [zodiac sign] buttons"
July 24th 1970 "I am rather unhappy because you people will not wear some nice buttons" and that perennial favourite:-
July 26th 1970 "Being that you will not wear some nice buttons, how about wearing some nasty buttons. Or any type of buttons that you can think up. If you do not wear any type of buttons, I shall ....."

....Well, they had to be inspired by something. Could it have been from this Vallejo connection? This competition? Why not? Right time of year.....
Which perhaps says a lot about the letters, where the writer was from, all that stuff. Very interesting!

The "dangerous animal" is interesting considering timing...imo. Weird thing for a nursery school though. I would like to see photos of that!
