LHR scene PHOTO thread - current day
Apologies if there's already a thread for miscellaneous photos of the scene. If there is, I couldn't find it in my currently caffeine-deficient state.
I stopped by the site last weekend on the way to Pt. Reyes to eat a goat and provolone sandwich. As I pulled into the turn-out, I observed a slightly larger than fist sized chunk of obsidian that had apparently been carefully placed on one of the wooden posts of the guardrail structure. I photographed the specimen in situ with the only camera I had, my iPhone. I picked it up to examine it briefly and entertained the notion of taking it with me, because I used to collect obsidian as a kid. In the end, I decided to leave there. I have no hypothesis as to who put it there or why.

From a distance, it first appeared to be a chunk of asphalt, but if you look past the other stuff clinging to it you'll see the characteristic fracture patterns of obsidian.
