Well yeah ok, toward the field. My point being, it had turned to face away from the road by the time it was discovered. Anyway, the reason I double checked is because of the location of the shot fired into the vehicle. If Zodiac pulls up to the right of the Rambler, then it means he exits his vehicle, walks toward or directly up to the Rambler, and fires a shot into the rear view door area just above the door itself. Obvious question: Why? Nobody was in the back. And if it was a 'warning shot' to entice them out of the vehicle, again you have to ask, why? For what purpose? At Blue Rock his intent is simply to kill, and shoot directly at the two victims.
What if the purpose of the shot he fires into the Rambler was not to force them out, but to try and contain the situation and keep them both in the vehicle? What if Betty motions to open the door and he fires to scare her into not exiting? And if Zodiac is shooting at the from a position to the right of the Rambler as it's parked, then that would be consistent with the shot entering above the rear passenger door. But if he is that side of the vehicle letting led fly into the passenger side, then why on Earth would both David and Betty exit via that side of the vehicle? If he forced them both out, what was his intent? Was he planning to abduct Betty or something? Shot Faraday dead, then planned and attempted to get in the Rambler and drive away with Betty as his prize, but Betty fled before he could pull away which forced him to exit the vehicle himself and open fire as she fled?
I know abduction was never Z's M.O, but I'm just trying to figure out, if he ordered one or both out, why? Then again M.O for Zodiac seemed to change as often as his appearance seemed to

Come on Tahoe, voice of reason.... what's the answer?
