The Guy holding the Gun

I have a question about the night of the Lake Herman Road murders. There is a husband and wife who are driving pass the murder scene that night to check the pipes.
Police interview them, they are in the police report. They say after they came back past the scene there was a young man standing there with a long pistol pointed out and down to the ground. Did anyone determine if in fact this young man brandishing the gun was one of the raccoon hunters?

I'm reading through the police report now. as far as I can tell it was. On page 22 at the top it states that the hunters trapped and shot a raccoon their dogs had tracked to an oak tree. The raccoon was shot with a long barreled .22 revolver which, it's hard to read, but seems to say was tested against the shell casings from the scene and eliminated as the weapon.

Yes. It was one of them.

Didn't the original police report mention initially that a spent rifle casing was found at the scene and that the speculation was that the first shot had been taken from a distance away and to the rear of the rambler, before this scenario was dropped? If it weren't in the official report, then it was in one of the newspapers in their initial report of the crime and scene?

Yes, it was the younger of the 2 raccoon hunters. They compared shell casings from the weapon to the ones at the crime scene and they didn't match. They also ran ballistics on a semi-automatic rifle of his. Obviously, again there was no match. Weird thing I can't figure out is they (cops) read this particular gentleman his rights, but not the older hunter he was with.

I'm wondering if the cops thought it possible that he could drop off the older hunter and return to the scene to commit the crime. Not sure exactly where Gassers ranch was on Good Year road, but it would have to be very close by. Even then I don't think that he had enough time.

I've been working on a timeline for the LHR incident the last few days, so most of this is fresh on my mind. I'll try to post my findings on the timeline (with accompanying map) by this weekend. I'm still trying to pinpoint the location of Gasser's (older hunter) ranch and a few other locations. Any help is welcomed.

I it odd the older gentleman said they removed his guns because of robberies in the area. Seems like all the more reasons to keep your guns close by.

It wasn't the older hunter that made that statement, it was the younger one. It was during his second interview. Gasser was only in on the first. I'm not really sure what he contributed in that first interview. Maybe he just sat there like a bump on a log.

Yeah, it's an odd thing.

Maybe the ranch wasn't Gasser's primary residence and he didn't like taking his guns back and forth? If that's the case, is he connected to Napa? Is that how he knows the Connely guy? Just thinking out loud.

Hey Buckwheat, while you are putting together the LHR timeline, can you put together a timeline on the sightings and descriptions
of the so called Impala that night.
