I hope there is an arrest. It's long overdue. Cheri's case, out of them all, is one I have felt the most solvable. I certainly hope they looked further into Ross.

WOW! And can we then assume that since you said "Don't be surprised if there is an arrest" that this person is not Ross and not dead? I am on the edge of my seat! I don't post much anymore (I have a 5 year old!) but I read everything often. I am SO happy for the family that they are finally putting new technologies to work on this case!

Morph ... do you still feel that Z wrote the letters but just didn't do the crime? And oooohhh....do you know who it is that they might arrest already???? Ahhh .... so many questions! I will let them all swirl in my tired brain for the night instead of asking them all....but what if the person that murdered her and the CJB letter writer turn out to be the same person??

I agree that Zodiac likely did not kill Cheri Jo Bates. But if DNA is the tool to eliminate Zodiac from the Bates murder, the very same tool can be used to exclude Zodiac from the Riverside communications. In the remote chance they manage to identify the culprit at Riverside, then it will follow they can then exclude him from the Riverside communications.
In the Cheri Jo Bates case we have mitochondrial DNA from the base of her right thumb and partial DNA from the Zodiac case.
Y and mitochondrial DNA, other than mutations, remain fixed from generation to generation, known as lineage markers, thereby allowing the identification of a family tree. We have this in both respects regarding Riverside and northern California, allowing a comparison to be submitted. Identify the killer in Riverside and it is then a relatively easy task to exclude him from the related communications in the case, making Zodiac totally independent and uninvolved in the Riverside case, as Riverside PD has always maintained.

Yes, I am convinced that Zodiac wrote the writings in the Bates case, and desktop poem, and that he did not kill Cheri.
I think there will be a lot more delving into Cheri's case in this series, than at any other time on any programs in the past, and she deserves that. In general, I just see lots of fresh suspects, fresh ideas, fresh discussion of the attacks, and new attempts for fresh results

When I saw that photo of Cheri's pants my first thought was: She was wearing red.

Just like the desktop poem.....

So maybe the writer of the poem didn't kill her, but knew enough of the situation to get that detail right.
