Tom knows people on the inside. If there is an ongoing investigation they will not make any formal announcements.

Tom wouldn't say anything to jeopardize the case. His sources know he can keep a confidence, which is why he gets info.

So it seems to me, either Tom got shit-faced drunk and said something he shouldn't have, or they are close to wrapping this up. They have already traced the DNA and know the guy is either dead or not going anywhere.

In this March 12, 2019 video interview it is stated that the current Zodiac Killer DNA test is "privately investigated in the lab"

WFSB - Channel 3 Eyewitness News
· True Crime Tuesday: Zodiac Killer
Can DNA technology finally crack the cold case of the Zodiac Killer after 50 years?

Melissa Moore, Crime Correspondent :
"- There's two stamps on different envelopes that we have DNA samples of and it is now being privately investigated in the lab.

So my questions are:

1. Who are "we"
2. Who is behind/paying for this "privately" DNA investigation?
3. Which "Lab" is conducting the DNA tests?
4. Is any police department involved in this DNA testing/investigation, and if yes which one?

(is the Crime Correspondent Melissa Moore the same MM who is the Happy Face serial killer's daughter ? And is she working with Tom V ? )

May 2018: information concerning Zodiac Killer DNA investigation starts at 00:47 into the video

The announcement was made late last night by Tom Voigt , Game over! He received word that VPD found Zodiac's DNA. We knew that VPD had sent in two of the first letters that were for sure written by Zodiac.

The next step will be entering it into GED match. That could take weeks before we get the answer as to who is or was Zodiac.

I am happy and disappointed at the same time. I don't think the announcement should be made until the arrest. But because VPD still thinks that Art Allen was the Zodiac and he is dead, no harm done.

What if I am right and the Zodiac is alive, he now knows to destroy any evidence he may have and get out of the country!

I posted some of this already on another thread last night, I wasn't sure where to put it? Then I let Zamantha know via email last night.

Thanks Zamantha for putting the information on the proper thread.

well, since they already have ALA's full DNA profile it would have been a quick ID it seems.

I agree it's something that should not have been announced until an arrest was made. I have to assume they would not do that and that they have already matched the DNA and know the person is either dead or in a position they can't go anywhere.

So Sandy, it's certain this DNA came from Vallejo?

Sandy, far from 'game over' in my opinion. First of all, has Tom or anyone announced that they have Zodiac's DNA -- as opposed to 'They Got DNA'?

If they haven't run it through Gedmatch yet, how would they know the DNA they allegedly obtained is Zodiac's?

Something sounds off.

Cat, not sure they have ALA's profile - do they? Would it automatically be in Codis?

They would know because of where they obtained the DNA from. GEDmatch is the website they use to check against other DNA.

Not sure Allen's DNA profile is in CODIS. However, Vallejo PD definitely has his profile. If their lab did work they could say quickly and easily it's not Allen.

They have had his DNA for a long time, unless they did something stupid like throw it away. They got it from some samples saved after ALA died and used it in the faulty comparison done by that television show years back.

THEY GOT DNA !!!!! -- 3/25/19 UPDATE

Thanks Zamantha,For putting it in the correct thread. I wasn't sure where to put it so I used the "News wire" thread as soon as I was told by Tom late last night.
Very exciting news that we have been waiting for over a year to hear, I knew you would know the best thread to put this exciting news!

Curious Cat, I knew that VPD had announced they were going to use two of the first letters that Zodiac sent, to try and extract DNA from. That was over a year ago, so I would think that is who got the job done?
Being that Det Terry P is in contact with Tom V , that would have been how Tom received the news late last night. Tom would never make that announcement ,with out being told that he could now announce this great news!
