They would know because of where they obtained the DNA from. GEDmatch is the website they use to check against other DNA.
I understand your point, but we're back to: What if a postal clerk licked the stamp (as Paul Holes suggested).
Can't call it Zodiac's DNA just yet, if we take Tom's announcement at face value.

They have had his DNA for a long time, unless they did something stupid like throw it away. They got it from some samples saved after ALA died and used it in the faulty comparison done by that television show years back.
Yeah, for some reason, I thought I read that they lost track of his DNA sample. Could be wrong.

Sandy, far from 'game over' in my opinion. First of all, has Tom or anyone announced that they have Zodiac's DNA -- as opposed to 'They Got DNA'?
If they haven't run it through Gedmatch yet, how would they know the DNA they allegedly obtained is Zodiac's?
Something sounds off.
How they know it is Zodiac's DNA is because they used two of the first letters from "Thee Zodiac" that's how. GED match is the next step in getting his name.

Sandy, are you assuming that, or do know for a fact that the lab pulled DNA off both the Chronicle and Examiner letters, and that they matched?
