Glad to be here!

Years ago, I became fascinated with serial killing, reading novels I eventually found blah like Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs, as well as TV shows like Profiler, Criminal Minds. etc. They seemed repetitive, predictable, and just generally followed the same story line. I read John Douglas's first books on profiling to learn as well as other criminalistics books, took some Psych classes in college, and now have read Scott Bonn's book - "Why We Love Serial Killers."

My eventual field of study has been genetics and evolutionary biology, but the ciphers left me fascinated a few months ago when my husband put on a documentary about Z. I always loved Math (insane, I know), especially puzzles. Genetics is a lot like ciphers, there are clues to starts and stops, and meanings. I can look at DNA sequences for hours attempting to find things, and now am trying to work on the unsolved Ciphers while learning everything I can on Z and his behavior as I go.

I tend to ask a lot of questions, why do this, that, or the other when it comes to Z's actions, but I also think that is where the eventual answer will be. If its a change in MO, why? Are the unsolved ciphers real, or a distraction? Did he stop killing, and if so why? What happened to this evidence- you get the idea. I hope I don't annoy anyone, but I also think fresh perspectives are good with cold cases. :D

I'm looking forward to it, and hope I can offer something that might help the case. Also look forward to meeting everyone on the board and learning their thoughts and how they came to them. Coming from a research background, I try to have no preconceived bias and admit when there is a better idea or possible solution. Hypotheses are wrong all the time.

Feel free to friend me, PM me, whatever.

Now lets go get us some Z!

I think those questions are crucial too. Where does he break with the pattern - and why? Problem is, of course, that in many cases we don't even know whether there is a pattern there to begin with - and if there is, we don't seem able to agree on what the hell it is...

Anyway - welcome! Your background is interesting - I'm looking forward to your contributions.

Welcome, Marie! We need fresh meat in this forum. We're tired of week-old hamburger... .

Sorry, vegetarian here- so no week old hamburger- maybe some freshly grilled asparagus in a delightful garlic vinegar sauce, or a delicious yet spicy blend of fresh vegetables sautéed to mouth watering perfection....
