My sister, Mona was murdered June 1975. Her body was dumped in a ravine in Riverside Ca, after her car ran out of gas, no one 'saw' her nor did she use the emergency call box, or go to a gas station that was open near the off ramp. I was living out of state at the time and the last 35 years have been hell. No answers, she is just murdered. HELP me find out who is responsible for this horrible crime, any information would help.
Thank you.

Welcome mona's sister,
So sorry about your loss. Can you tell us a little more? Where was Mona driving to? How old, etc? A lot of people here are good at digging up things. Hopefully we can help you find some answers.

Mona Jean Gallegos (22), 5' 1" in height, was murdered after visiting a male friend (auto-salesman), in Alhambra, with regards to an automobile, leaving at 1am on 6/19/75 to return to her Covina residence at 4944 Vincent Avenue. The man, however, was cleared of any suspicion, despite having been the last person to see her alive. Unfortunately her death could only be estimated to that day on Thursday 19th June 1975, as she was not found immediately, but seems likely the day she went missing was her last. There appeared to be no eyewitnesses to the crime, although hotline tips were called in. According to Mona's sister she was discovered bereft of clothes, apart from one shoe. Her vehicle was found at Santa Anita Avenue, east on San Bernadino Freeway some 3 and a half hours after she had left her friends house. Her remains were found by two teenagers.
The family had moved from Colorado to Southern California in 1968, and Mona had attended Wilson High School in Los Angeles and Mt San Antonio College. At the time of her death she had been working as a waitress at at Coffee Dan's in West Covina.
There was an all night service station nearby, but my guess is she never visited it, because the police must have quizzed the attendant to see if he/she could recollect any young woman asking for assistance, having ran out of petrol. So it would appear a passing motorist is the likely scenario. It beggars belief that possibly the first person to stop was a deranged killer, this always seems to me the chances of this happening is never questioned and although possible, it is usually the least likely to fully digest. Was it ever questioned whether her car was tampered with that night, possibly drained of petrol and trailed. It seems unusual that anybody would begin a journey, not being aware of the fuel guage and whether the journey was possible, plus being drawn to a meeting at short notice that late at night, leaves question marks. I hope you find the much needed answers your family deserves after nearly 40 years of hurt.

Here's a couple more cases from around that area. Cynthia Hernandez was last seen in Glendora on August 26,1976 at the Fox Twin Theaters watching "The Omen". http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/862dfca.html and Diane Brown http://cms.sbcounty.gov/Portals/34/Homi ... _Brown.pdf

Hello Monas Sister,

I'm curious if you are still aware about the car salesman who had been 'cleared'? What if this car dealer had manipulated her gas line, which is easy to do, then followed her to offer her some 'help'?

His identity could help us to understand the situation better..overall he made her leave home late at night, didn't he? And it was sort of an unusual behaviour for her.

Then, her jobs: We should think about those locations, too. Also her ex boyfriend. Any ties to the Manson family? Colorado..which high school? Etc.

Finally - she was found in Riverside. Even that one is interesting enough, where was the exact place she was found? Her clothes...all gone forever, so the watch? Was it a Timex?

Thanks for any information you can find or get from police, as a relative to Mona.
