I am a semi-retired engineer/mathematician and I am quite fascinated by this case.
I recall visiting a Berkeley professor who was working on the plot outline for a novel. He asked for my thoughts on one aspect of the story: namely, something about a mathematician who was murdering people according to a formula involving angles measured from Mt. Diablo.
