That really is a brilliant expression. It is the first time I heard of having one's skull candled. The phrase certainly conjures up a few picturesque images in my dimly illuminated cranium.

But, my eyes being as dimly lit as the inside of my skull, when I first saw it written I had to double-check whether I was reading "need our skulls candled" or "need our skulls candied". One letter difference.

No doubt my skull would benefit from both operations.

Of course, in the latter case, I am not sure who could possibly be persuaded to partake in that particular confection.
