I have a memory of looking into this. I recall that the CA DMV purged records from the Z timeframe. I could be (and hope to be) wrong. But I don't think those records are available.

When Ross' dad died in 1968, did Ross receive an inheritance? I ask as Ross didn't seem to have a decent paying job (dishwasher). Since the Zodiac used a vehicle, per survivor Mike, I wondered how, Ross, if he is the Zodiac, would scrounge up the money for a car. Maybe he traded in his motorcycle. But an inheritance from his Dad's estate in 1968 might connect the dots about how he afforded a car (even if it was a used car).

That has been my thinking. Z admitted to driving a brown car at BRS. A few weeks later, he was seen driving a 1966 Impala (with mismatched tires). New car but can't afford a set of tires? Dead dads car would explain that.

It would be well worth it to see if any records are still available.

It's been said by many here the tracks behind Bryan's car couldn't have been made by a Chevy...like an Impala. Those tracks are where the mismatched tires were.

So either the blue Chevy the three girls described wasn't his, or the car behind Bryan's wasn't his.

He could’ve used Tim’s car if he was visiting or lived close enough. Does anyone know what kind of vehicle he owned?

Good point about Ross possibly receiving his dead Dad's car. Would Ross' Dad's will be a public record document that is now searchable online? If so, perhaps Dad's will lists the make and model of car as part of the inventory of estate assets. Wouldn't it be interesting if Dad owned an Impala? Has anyone ever searched for the will?
