"Dr. Miron, a psycholinguistics expert wrote this report for the Syracuse Research Institute:
"He is no more than high school educated, reads little, is isolated, withdrawn and unrelated in his habits, quiet and unpreposessing in disposition, a discretionary illiterate. Prefers the passiveness of pictures, tv and the movies. Would have spent much of his time in movie houses, specializing in sado-masochistic and occult eroticism. A borderline psychotic, his communications display the characteristic signs of magical thinking and narcissistic infantilism, typical of the schitzophrenic. Zodiac rather well fits the pattern of what might be called pseudo-reactive schitzophrenia. Such individuals engage in their bizarre behavior as a sort of cover up for their underlying, and more hidden psychosis. They can be expected to display wide swings of emotion from intense euphoria to deepest depression. He lives the secret life of seclusion and presents to the worls a mask of containment, pleasantness, and ordinariness."

This was about Z based on his writings. But it really sounds like what we know of Ross.

Dag MacLugh wrote:The ongoing debate as to whether or not Cheri Bates was a Z victim is, I think, irrelevant. Her murder needs to be solved simply because it was a murder--and a particularly disturbing one, at that. There is an abundance of info concerning this crime, which makes it perhaps more solvable than the others. And, of course, there is the possibility Z may in fact have killed Cheri. So, I suggest we combine our talents and concentrate on solving Cheri's murder.
As far as dissenting from Ross being Cheri's murderer, let me advance my "POI": 1. He attended Ramona High while Cheri was a freshman; 2. His initials are RH, matching the desktop poem signature; 3. He served active Navy service shortly before Cheri's murder (footprints at the crime scene); 4. I suspect, but due to legal barriers cannot prove, that he attended Riverside City College while Cheri was a student there; 5. He was engaged to, and married, a young lady who also attended Ramona High when Cheri did; 6. RH's fiancee lived right around the corner from Cheri's home; 7. Before wedding RH, his fiancee was a librarian assistant at RCC; 8. In 1968-9, RH and his wife moved to San Jose, where he enrolled as a student with a Graphic Design major.

Great, you have a POI from Riverside. That is not a valid reason to dismiss Ross.

Members who feel strongly about the Riverside connection would be interested in any RCC suspect, but simply being at RCC in 1966 is not enough.

You should start your own thread to discuss your POI, but stop with the "my POI is better than your POI" argument.

I disagree, but I'm no "Psycholinguistic expert". He very well could be schizophrenic, but I think he was probably well read, well educated, and went out of his way to hide that in his writings. (like he did using later generation copies of the confession letter, to hide his typewriter) Which is why I don't think any of the profilers/FBI were ever successful in finding him.

They were looking at all the wrong type of suspects

it does sound a lot like Ross. Though I don't think The Zodiac.

Averly: You criticized my post, but apparently didn't read it. In no way did I dismiss Ross as a suspect; I offered my "POI" as an alternative, and included a number of reasons why I think he should be considered. Why is that a problem for you?

One thing I have learned is people get very defensive of their POI's. Maybe frustration comes from them not thinking they are being believed. I'm not really sure why it would bother them that the rest of us were ignorant. :P I sure hope some day someone can tell me how wrong I was. I'd be happy to oblige.

What do you guys think of History basically casting Sullivan aside because he has no military background?

I think it makes them look silly, like everybody they come across looks like 'the guy'. Who's next? Marshall, Gaikowski?
