And I actually have info and a pic of a house they moved to that was gorgeous at one time. their first house was a paronage associated with a church, now a parking lot. Anyway, I don't think you can be thrice Ivied and have come from a poor family, so perhaps an inheritance?

{I had also wondered how he met Harold met Harriet (if this has been discussed before, apologies), but I thought she might have gone to one of the seven sisters (back when women couldn't attend most Ivies), not cheap either. And since she was from Maine, I started with Smith in MA, as it was associated with Yale and think I found her. And Harold did attend Harvard after Yale. Smith is not cheap either. I also figured she was well educated, and hope to confirm that in the next couple weeks. She was in the outing club (don't know what that was) and did crew, listed as class of 1938. Again, might have had a big inheritance- crew was usually done at mainly at private/prep schools back then.}

Don't know, just surmising.

I've always wondered why, if they were so well educated, they lived in such slummy apartments. It wasn't just one, it was all of the them. The apartment on Harvard St. in Glendale was a one bedroom and there were FIVE of them. Harold had degrees from Yale and Harvard and worked at the YMCA. Isn't that odd?

2nd edit: the apt. looks large and he lived a block from a beach. I'm willing to bet rent was pricey. How was he able to afford this?

That property has a "studio" and I know that area was becoming run down by the late 70's. (don't know about Ross's time) But it seems likely his part time job could afford it. But yes, interesting he's not living on campus. It's a very long walk, sure there are buses. And the campus is more of a state park, with hiking trails and plenty of secluded areas.

Look at the ad next to Ross's name. My theory is that he bought a Blue Chevy at Prolo's.

He must have had a car. The school was only built in 1965, two years before Ross went there, how much of the normal infrastructure that one associates with colleges was already there by then? Santa Cruz had a population of 30,000 in 1967. It was a small town.

And don't forget Princeton. Vow of poverty? I really don't know. I think it is a very weird place to work, but maybe he was a tad odd himself? Another reason I want to know the family's early history. They seem to have moved a lot.

(This house, while run down now, they purchased and lived in, it right off of Riverside Drive that had beautiful mansions in Binghamton. Now you might be able to buy some drugs there.)

In January 1969, a couple of guys who also lived at 512 2nd St were arrested for possession of stolen property and auto burglary. Ross' roommates???

Charles Henning died in 2004 and I can't find anything on Douglas Peters yet. If he is alive, somebody should try to contact him and ask him if he knew Ross.

Elaine Louise Davis was found near the lighthouse, about one mile west of Ross' Santa Cruz address. She was from Walnut Creek near Vallejo.

We should coordinate on a little list of who to contact, and go down the list to make sure people are not being contacted multiples times,etc.
