Possibly. We don't know that for a fact. Hartnell didn't remember it as Deer Lodge, Montana. The latter was suggested to him by Robertson - which makes sense, of course, Deer Lodge being a well known prison.

But what Hartnell actually recollected was something else.

I read the first post regarding Deer Lodge. The head man posted that information. I went with his idea here, he is an expert on these matters.

But you're right, it's still interesting that after all these years Deer Lodge is still the city widely believed to have been what Zodiac said and someone Ross knew well had a big connection to it. Let's not forget that Ross' dad would take his YMCA boys, including Ross and his brothers, on these western trips. So that could very well have been something Noel and Ross spoke about.

welcome to this site. someone says with authority one thing and you
go with that. next thing you know, someone else contradicts it. then
you ask the initial poster to clarify and he dances around. then you
ask a specific question like " is there anyway to prove if Ross' prints
were ever taken?" and you get no answer. if Ross' prints are on file,
most likely the discovery would either clear or convict him. i think
that is what we're trying to do here. so, one more time.....
is there anyway of determining if LE has or ever had his prints? thanks

As I mentioned before, the big guy posted that info. I won't challenge him. This man is known as the number one expert on the Zodiac case. Now we know Ross got arrested acting nutty in that phone booth. When they pinch you, they take your finger prints. Oh course they have his prints. They send them to the Feds. I don't know, maybe you have never been arrested, but many people have, multiple times. I know a boxer from a Lowell that got arrested 66 times, and they took his prints 66 times. They always want to print people my friend, it's what they do, and not much else. It's ok because when they get you say nothing to them until you have a lawyer. Tell them you're very athletic, and want to exercise your rights.

His wife Stella lived across the street from my grandfather. He used to hang around that strip bar, Nicky's on Gorham St. In Lowell. I remember my grandfather throwing raw, old hamburg, across the street to their dog to eat.

My grandma lived in Lowell. Small world. Douglas Road.

66 times, eh? That's not bad.

As for Ross, you're right: If he was arrested in a normal fashion, they did print him.

However, if he was known to them as a mental case at the time, they may have detained him without printing him. Impossible to say without further details. The lack of details is a problem with Ross - in general. It should be easy to determine both this and that, given that he was very much known to the authorities in more ways than one. But apparently it isn't.

At the time Ross was arrested in Santa Cruz LE was still putting prints on paper. No such thing as a computer to store all those bits of paper with prints. Departments regularly purged their files to get rid of unnecessary and outdated things. Since Ross was not arrested for a felony, his prints, if they were taken, were purged at some point. The only prints that would be kept for any length of time would be people arrested for a felony. Even if he was charged with a felony, I bet they would have been purged after his death.
