The Zodiac comes out with an explanation that he is only an escaped convict from Montana and wants the money of the two kids at the Lake. He goes so far as to mention Deer Lodge. Now we find out that the girl at who's house ross lived at had a relative with the same name die near Deer Lodge MT. That in itself is quite a coincidence, to say the least.

Can you elaborate?

I can elaborate on this subject but my stomach is on the blink. I was boxing at the gym and I'm feeling poorly. I think I drank some bad draft beer yesterday and dark rum never agrees with me either. I have some ideas that I would like to expound upon.

The Jette family had mineral patent rights to 13,000 acres near Deer Lodge. They were miners. They were pillars of the community. Surely Noel would have talked about Deer Lodge. Her family practically owned the place. Then the crazy one goes around ranting about Deer Lodge Prison escape of 1959, or some such thing. This doesn't prove Ross did it, but it sure doesn't look good for him now.

But how "not quite" did the chicken have to be, to be not quite a chicken?

That is, indeed, the question.

It's a theoretical concept more than a flesh-and-blood creature (a "not quite chicken"), I suppose. But the basic truth of it still holds, I think. At some point what we call a chicken did appear as the offspring of something we would not - quite - call a chicken. And it, the chicken, must have emerged from an egg (there's no other way, as far as we know).

Anyway, sorry morf - you're quite right. Back to the matter at hand.

Possibly. We don't know that for a fact. Hartnell didn't remember it as Deer Lodge, Montana. The latter was suggested to him by Robertson - which makes sense, of course, Deer Lodge being a well known prison.

But what Hartnell actually recollected was something else.

What Hartnell said was that the prison city had two names. He then named several different possible ones, but would say, "something like that," in either Colorado or Montana. (He wasn't even sure of the state).

The police then mentioned Deer Lodge, Montana and he agreed.

So, you guys are right, not definitive. But he had an idea and was trying to figure it out.

I read the first post regarding Deer Lodge. The head man posted that information. I went with his idea here, he is an expert on these matters.
