Maybe the brother can have his DNA checked against what RPD has. Then again this might make him a suspect if it matches.

Well, that's if you can get RPD to even listen. 'IF', and it's a BIG IF, Ross's Brother is open to helping clear Ross as a Suspect, I would be willing to contribute to a fund to get DNA extracted, and a Profile made from it, to pass along to RPD, VALLEJO,NAPA,SF,SOLANO,FBI,DEPT OF JUSTICE, etc.

Any other takers?? I have heard that it would cost between $900 & $2300 for that, but I have never been part of that process before, so am not entirely sure. As I said, this is a bit premature, but I am IN if it gets that far

An mtDNA test only costs about $100.

As the RPD only has a hair with mtDNA that is all we need for a first stage to include or exclude him for the Bates murder.

I'm in.

I know you have dealt with Paul Holes a bunch, what other types of DNA are we possibly using in the z case? I assume the stamp evidence(if it is really from z)is the DNA that SF has, right? What about the DNA that NAPA was working with?

Nuclear DNA or "full" DNA can be obtained from saliva, blood, semen or skin cells.

Currently it is not clear if anyone has actual Zodiac DNA. If the brother is willing to give a hair sample to get mtDNA to compare to the hair found in Cheri's hand, you could ask him to do a cheek swab to get nuclear DNA, in case there is or someday may be possible Zodiac nuclear DNA.

Is that the DNA where they match it up to someone's mother? Meaning you can get pretty accurate DNA from brothers or sisters if they had the same mother.

Yes mtDNA is matched through the mother.

Any given mtDNA will match 1 - 5 % of the population. So if the brother is in the same mtDNA group as that of the Bates hair, then Ross could not be excluded and this may be enough to spur further investigation by the police. While not proof of guilt we could then say that Ross is in the 2 percent of the population that could have been the donor of that hair. If it is not a match then Ross can be excluded.

So, if we got DNA from the Brother, are you saying that giving it to police in the Z case would likely be pointless?

No.

If the brother is willing to give both mtDNA and nuclear DNA, then there is every reason to give the mtDNA to the Riverside police in hopes that they would compare it to the Bates hair mtDNA.

We simply do not know for sure either way whether any nuclear DNA exist in the Zodiac case, but I would certainly suggest giving any nuclear DNA results to the SFPD and other agencies in the hopes that they would compare it to any possible Zodiac DNA that they may possess now or that they may possess in the future.
