I must say I have never really looked at or considered TK as Z very seriously. However after reading AK Wilk's work here, the idea is very compelling to say the least. Of all the listed suspects, TK seems to be at least the most plausable. (I sure wish his looks resembled the sketches more). Outstanding presentation AK.

Thanks very much. I really appreciate that. Glad I opened your eyes to the merits of TK. I can only encourage you and others too look at him seriously, and do your own research to find evidence which tends to include him or exclude him as a suspect in Z and other crimes.

It is funny how we all look at the same things differently. We all evaluate things in our own way. I have always thought TK's handwriting was incredibly similar to the Z, and even people who don't think much of TK as an overall suspect have told me they admit the handwriting is the best match among the named suspects. But someone recently said they like TK as a suspect except for the handwriting as they did not see much similarity! And from their honest perspective, that is what they see.

So I thank you for your compliment but I am curious, what do you see as the problem with the photo and sketch comparison? Keep in mind that police sketches are not perfect, and vary from the real person based on the witnesses age, perspective, angle, lighting, etc. What do you see of TK as being so different then the 69 SF sketch? Or other sketches?



For Santa Barbara 63, Percy/Bricca, Zodiac and EAR/ONS, the basic physical description of the suspects in all of these cases MATCHES AND GENERALLY MATCH KACZYNSKI - 5'8' - 5'10" tall, 150 to 170 pounds, dirty sandy blonde to light brown hair (slight reddish tinge), thin but wiry and athletic build, size 9 1/2 to 10 1/2 shoe print, blue eyes, large hawk like nose, almond shaped eyes, elongated upper lip and prissy lower lip, large forehead, prominent jaw, jutting chin, wears sneakers/military shoes/military boots, often wears plaid or checkered pattern shirts, wears military jacket, ties nautical knots, ties victims with pre cut rope or shoelaces, sometimes wears black reading glasses as a disguise.

The ages generally fit as well - with the Santa Barbara killer described as 18 to 25 in 1963, the Percy murder suspect as 18 to 25 in 1966, the Zodiac as 25 to 35 in 1969 and the Original Night Stalker as 28 to 35 in the late seventies.



The suspect description in the Bennallack murder was: "Glen Campbell Haircut" (meaning a large parted wave?), about 25 years old, 5' 9", 170 pounds.

Shot and wounded by the Zodiac on 7/4/69, Michael Mageau thought Zodiac was 25 to 30 years old and 160 pounds, with short hair but sort of combed up in a "pompadour". Probable Zodiac attempted abduction victim Kathleen Johns also put Zodiac at 160 pounds. In this time period, Kaczynski was 5' 9" - 5' 10", 150 to 160 pounds, 27 when Mageau was shot and 28 when Bennallack was murdered.

Also, the sketch of the Bennallack suspect bears a very interesting similarity to the "Napa Composite", the man seen hiding behind a tree and spying on the college girls at Lake Berryessa before the Zodiac attack there that same day, and thought by police to perhaps be the Zodiac. One girl thought this man was around 28, another thought 30 to 35. Also, the sketch of the Bennallack suspect and the Napa Composite bears a similarity to one of the many looks of Kaczynski, his darker hair, parted in a big wave look.

Hakari is considered a possible victim of the Zodiac, and police thought her killer also probably murdered Sacramento resident Nancy Bennallack (in a ONS like home invasion attack) and Nevada resident Donna Lass, both also regarded as possible Zodiac victims.

The day after Bennallack was killed, but before it hit the newspapers, the Zodiac sent a Halloween Card to the SF Chronicle claiming a new 14th victim.

And the Zodiac sent in a postcard strongly suggesting he killed Lass.

The bearded Ted Kaczynski bears an obvious very strong similarity to the bearded suspect in these possible Zodiac murders.

The one man at the scene of the Riverside campus library the night of the murder of Cheri Jo Bates on October 30, 1966, who could not be accounted for or found, was a bearded young man.

Hilburn was probably killed by Phillip Arthur Thompson, the man recently convicted for the murder of Betty Cloer.

Police at the time thought that one man may have killed Hakari, Bennallack and Donna Lass - South Lake Tahoe is right across the state line from Sacramento, and Lass, like Hakari, was a nurse.

I think Ted K is the Zodiac. Period. Aside from Bruce Davis, who I think cannot be Zodiac, he is the only major named suspect who is a convicted murderer of strangers, obsessed and skilled in bomb designing and code creating, was in the area at the time and was known to write letters to newspapers bragging of killing and demanding his words be published.

I don't know what more to do. Or what I can do.

Analysis: Both Zodiac and Kaczynski are annoyed by and comment on motorcycles making a loud noise.

Analysis: Both Zodiac and Kaczynski have a code in which in order to increase difficulty of solution they change the last consonant (S, Y) in a word to the vowel "E".

Yes I have thought about hiring both a handwriting analyst and a language analyst. But it is expensive. And my feeling is right now anyway it would not be a game changer. Even if I paid upfront. people would just say "Oh well sure AK Wilks hired an expert to say TK matches Z, big deal" Handwriting analysis is as much art as science. It cannot provide a smoking gun. It is unlikely to move police to act quicker or more intensely IMO. If I ever decide to finish my book on the case, I might do it. But otherwise I just don't think it would make enough of an impact.

I think the only way the case gets solved conclusively is by DNA. And we don't know if any solid actual Zodiac DNA exists.

To my eye the handwriting comps are very similar and you do not need an expert. People can look and come to their own conclusions.

Zodiac often but not always did a 3 stroke "k", Kaczynski often but not always did a 3 stroke "k". Zodiac often did a 5 stroke "m", same as Ted. Other matches include the checkmark "r", short caps and bottom on the capital "I" and frequent cursive looped back on the "d". Look at Ted's "k" in "Park" - a clear 3 stroke. Morrill said few people in the general population do 3 stroke "k" or 5 stroke "m" so those would be things he would look for. I also blew up the Ted letter to the boy.

ITA and imo, Ted's brother makes himself look guilty by not supplying any DNA! He turned Ted in for the bombing so why refuse dna testing unless he is somehow involved?

Ted definitely looks like the most likely culprit at this point imo. Today being Halloween would be the perfect time for someone to approach him with the subject of the Zodiac and ask him his opinion about that and Halloween and other related topics.

The only thing that bothers me about Ted being a suspect is his atheism as that would seem to preclude thoughts of an afterlife and guilt feelings ("the confession letter") and the other writings with religious overtones.

I agree. I am beyond frustrated with the FBI. I have pretty much given up (for now anyway) contacting them or trying to get them to do anything. They know everything and they don't need any help. They are basically a rigid bureaucratic structure that discourages independent thought. After years they finally moved on the Tylenol investigation, but when Ted refused to give a DNA sample, he seems to have beat them at chess once again. They said they would get a court order, but I don't know if they ever did or ever got his DNA.

The ability of a citizen to really help is limited, because they don't want help. Something is blocking them. Fear of embarrassment if citizen sleuths actually provided the leads to solve major cases and not the FBI with their billions of budget? Because it could affect other cases? Or just the usual red tape, legalities, lack of creative outside the box thinking and bureaucratic inertia?

My only hope now lies with some smaller agencies, like the Orange County DA and the Hamilton County SD. A Captain from the HCSD Homicide squad actually called me a few years back following up on info I gave them on possible links between the Zodiac and/or TK and some unsolved Midwest murders. So I have some hope that there could be a breakthrough if a solid DNA or other link is ever established. it might have a chain effect in several of these cases. But that is probably a longshot.

Based on the evidence I sent them and my conversation with the capt., they declared Zodiac a suspect in the Bricca case. When they talk about the Zodiac using a similar method of ordering the female to tie the male and stacking of the female body on the male they mean the SB 63 Domingos/Edwards case, which I did explain to them was a possible Z case but not confirmed as Z.

In talking to these Midwest police detectives, they were much more down to earth, approachable and appreciative than the FBI. And more willing to at least consider different theories. So they remain my hope. I have little hope for the feds.

I don't mean this as a criticism of anyone, or any particular theory (personally I have no clue who Zodiac really was!), but I have never been able to see Kaczynski as Zodiac. Yes, both were killers, but to me their personalities are strikingly different. So are their preferred methods of killing. And I see their motives as totally different too.

I also think that Kaczynski was much more intelligent and probably a lot better educated than Zodiac. Not that this totally eliminates TK as a Zodiac suspect, but again...too many differences for me.

I readily admit I could be totally wrong--as I said, I have no idea regarding Zodiac's actual identity. I did think for a long time that the best suspect was Arthur Leigh Allen, but what solid evidence exists does appear to rule him out. (Sometimes I still wonder tho... )

It would be a (cruel) joke on all of us if the case ever does get solved and it turns out that Zodiac was someone NOBODY ever suspected--or even heard of. Someone once made a similar remark about the identity of Jack the Ripper and I've never forgotten it.

I just don't know what to think!
