It is real. It's from the Wingnut Anarchist Collective in Richmond, Virginia. I contacted the former leader earlier this year and she remembers when they sent it but had no idea it had been put in an archive.

This appears to be a quote from the Earl of Clarendon, author of a History of Rebellion. I agree with you that the Zodiac picking this card which has a tree in it is yet another instance of Zodiac making reference to wood and nature themes in his crimes. For example, the Stine crime was committed at Maple and Cherry, two types of trees, to the "Peek through the Pines" card that zodiac sent impossible reference to Donna Lass, the crimes committed near water or near water named streets and cities, and many other examples.

But the things you noticed in particular on that tree are common features of many trees. And I'm under the impression that the Halloween card drawing of a tree was part of the commercially manufactured card. Zodiac then wrote additional eyes and other things on the card, but I thought, and I could be wrong, that the tree was part of the commercially mass-produced card.

I haven't been able to find where anybody has proven it was mass produced. Do you have any links? I have seen cards that have similar wording but not an exact version of the Halloween card graphics (aside from the obvious modifications Z made). I'm interested to hear from the people that have looked into this in depth if they believe it was handmade. Also if they have found any more information about it.

I would go to the confirmed letters section and the Halloween Card area and request that someone post the original Halloween card as it was offered for sale.

one also has to wonder how big and what did that tree look like 48 years ago.

I've been trying to find the original card for a long time now, and continue to fail. Has anyone ever been able to get another of the same card? As far as I can tell, no one has been able to.

I also tried to locate the original die cut skeleton that he presumably pasted inside the card. I failed on that front as well: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=2899

Do you have a link to the offer? I can't find any evidence that anyone has ever had one of the original cards.
