First, a relevant fact. TECHNOPHOBIA

Is the name of the novel written by Joe LaFollette in 1985, based on long conversations with David Kaczynski. The plot is about a Berkeley professor who hates computers, in particular an artificial intelligence system named LAURA. The Berkeley professor starts doing KNIFE MURDERS in a war against society.

Hmm, sounds like anyone David Kaczynski would have known?

The information from David is consistent with Ted doing knife based personal murders like Zodiac, or Valerie Percy, or others. Or was just a figment of David and Joe's imagination.

When I personally asked David to give his DNA to be compared to what I thought was possible Zodiac DNA, David refused. He told me he didn't think Ted was the Zodiac or Tylenol Killer, but he refused to give DNA on the grounds that Ted could be "exposed to a possible death penalty." Of course Ted would only face a death penalty if he actually was the Zodiac or Tylenol Killer.

The only copy of the book is in the Library of Congress.

"YOU ARE NEXT" CARD FROM ZODIAC, POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DR. ADAMS & TED KACZYNSKI

Thanks to the FBI documents obtained by MORF in regards to the unconfirmed Zodiac card with the words "Oct. 12, 1970", "The Zodiac is going to", "you taught me", "YOU ARE NEXT", we now know that was sent to Dr. Edward C. Adams, M.D., a psychiatrist who lived in Orinda and apparently had an office at Hotel Shattuck in Berkeley.

Ted Kaczynski did indeed hate psychiatrists, and the first person he expressed a desire to "really kill" was the psychiatrist he talked to about the sex change, in early September 1966.

In 1966, the first person Ted Kaczynski expresses a written desire to kill is a psychiatrist who he hates.

In 1970, Zodiac may have threatened a psychiatrist by telling him "YOU ARE NEXT".

In 1993, Ted Kaczynski threatened a psychiatrist by telling him "YOU ARE NEXT". He had just mail bombed his brother.

Thanks to documents obtained by MORF of http://www.zodiackillersite.com and graphics/computer work by TRAVELLER1ST we now have the UNREDACTED version of the YOU ARE NEXT unconfirmed Zodiac card, which was postmarked from BERKELEY California and sent to a psychiatrist, Dr. Edward Adams, who appears to have had an office in BERKELEY as well.

IMO the new Oct 12, 1970 card is created by the very same person as the person who created the probale Zodiac card of Oct 5, 1970. Created exactly 1 week apart.

Why?

Because:

1. the cut out day/date is proably from the same newspaper, exact same font.

2. both cards are signed with the name "Zodiac", and the name "Zodiac" in both cards are ALSO probably from the same newspaper, both in exact same font, only the Oct 5 is made by single cut out letters (NOT italics)and the Oct 12 is one single word cut out (this IS italics version of the font).

3. the crosshair symbols on the Oct 5 and the Oct 12 are very similar in their design.



KITE noted: The possibility of that 10/12/70 date associated postcard being sent by Zodiac is particularly interesting when considering a possible parallel to Kaczynski. The more immediate or otherwise obvious postcard associated parallels are Berkeley and Kaczynski's apparent homicidal hatred and seemingly potent paranoia for psychiatrists or psychologists.

If that is correct, in Kaczynski, you have a serial killer who talked of feeling a sense of LIBERATION when he dreamt of killing a psychologist. Here's a section from over by the THE CASE FOR KACZYNSKI... section:

(...psychologist would either be trying to convince me I was "sick" or would be trying to control my mind through psychological techniques. I would be on the dodge....and finally I would break out into physical violence against the psychologist and his allies. At the moment when I broke out into violence and killed the psychologist or other such figures, I experienced a great feeling of relief and LIBERATION.)

AK: If I am reading the entry right, and Dr. Adams had an office at Hotel Shattuck in Berkeley, that is within 1 mile of the Kaczynski house on Regent Street in Berkeley.

IMO this unredacted card is a major find, the biggest out of this new batch recovered by Morf.

IF this card is really from Zodiac, then there should be some connection or nexus between who Zodiac really was and this Dr. Adams.

At the link above, Ricardo has excellent large reproductions of the card, and analysis showing possible links between Dr. Adams and his circle of associates and TWO well known Zodiac suspects.

He shows possible links between two associates of Dr. Adams and Ted Kaczynski. One associate, Dr. Adams agent, went to Harvard at the same time as Ted. More importantly, one of the associates of Dr. Adams appears to have worked with Dr. Henry Murray, the man who did the cruel CIA sponsored mental experiments on Ted at Harvard.

Ricardo mentions an article by Dr. Adams called "Psychological Aspects of Atomic Disaster".

I have not yet read the full article, but if Ted read this, I can tell you he would have hated Dr. Adams. Just two brief bits at the end will illustrate this - in event of nuclear war, Dr. Adams says:

* That after atomic war, ambulances should patrol with psychiatrists and other persons, and have "syringes and sedatives."

* "All efforts should be directed to getting back to work as quickly as possible."

Ted viewed psychiatrists and psychologists as evil minions of the system trying to control people's minds. The first person he expressed a written desire to kill, in September 1966, was the psychiatrist he talked to about his desired sex change which he felt was humiliating. He had repeated dreams/nightmares about psychiatrists trying to control his mind.

Reading this Dr. Strangelovian article by Dr. Edward Adams about atomic war and how psychiatrists can get people under control and back to work is interesting, and if Ted ever read this article I am confident Adams would have been on his self described "Hit List"

Ted often talked about how revolutionaries need to be as violent and tough as their enemies in the scientific, corporate and government establishments. Ted said they were prepared to cruelly murder people and reduce us to enslavement, so we as revolutionaries must be prepared to be equally violent and cruel.

Keeping all this in mind, and that an associate of Dr. Adams worked with Dr. Murray, the man who did experiments with Ted at Harvard, it is interesting to reflect on the line in this possible Zodiac card that says:

YOU TAUGHT ME TO MEAN IT

She noted that the threat letter said "the adamses are next", meaning the couple Dr. Edward Adams and his wife.

Both he and his wife appeared in the newspapers, one was a Nov. 1968 multi page spread on their house and garden. Mrs. Adam was also active in women's groups, library groups and feminism. The feminist event was noted in October 1969. Did this trigger "Zodiac"? Or was it the 1968 photo spread? And/or was it Dr. Adams article about how to get people working again after nuclear war, or his association with Dr. Murray? Or all of the above? Or random?

Professor James McConnell of U of M had a spread in a 1982 issue of People mentioning how much money he was making in the psychology field and with pictures of his nice big home, and three years later he got a mailbomb from Ted. If anyone can find this and post it I would love to see it. To see what made Ted so angry he decided to try to kill a man largely based on a photo spread. And to compare it to the Dr. Adams photo spread.

It sounds as if you believe the doctor named Ted.

If this is the case, wouldn't it be fair to say they looked in to Ted as being Zodiac? If so, they must have had reason to believe he could not have been Zodiac.

It would seem to me, whoever was named was certainly looked at. Mailing threats is serious business. Maybe they couldn't prove it was him, but my guess is the sender of this card was most certainly evaluated. Doesn't mean they weren't involved in other mischievous acts though.

No not saying that at all. It is very unlikely that Ted would have been a patient of this doctor in the 1967-1969 time period. He hated psychiatrists. He only saw one at U of M because he needed the support of one for a sex change. Unless there was some unusual situation that we don't know about in which he needed something from a psychiatrist in this 67-69 time period, he would not have seen one. And while this Dr. Adams may have come to Ted's attention through his articles such as the nuclear war piece and/or his association with Dr. Murray, I doubt any circumstance happened were Dr. Adams became aware of Ted. I think the fact that Ted lived in Berkeley and the man Dr. Adams named as a suspect was a Berkeley resident is likely a coincidence.

Dr. Adams got this threatening card. Logically he would think "who that I know could have sent it?" He must have had someone who has an enemy, a professional rival maybe, maybe a romantic situation, or a business dispute, more likely a disturbed former or current patient. So he told police who he "believed" might have sent it. And I am sure police looked at that person. But we have what is represented as the entire unredacted FBI file. Mailing a threat is a federal offense. But nothing further is in the file about this person named by Dr. Adams, nothing about an arrest. So I assume he was looked at and either cleared or in any event no further evidence was found to prove he mailed this card.

The police may or may not have thought the "You Are Next" was likely the real Zodiac. And Dr. Adams did not mention the newspaper article or Zodiac, so he may not have realized that the newspaper article and/or his writings and/or association with Dr. Murray could have put him in the sites of the real Zodiac, a stranger to him personally.

I am suggesting that Ted had a prior history of hating psychiatrists (in 1966 wanting to kill his psychiatrist), had persistent dreams of murdering psychologists and other like people he regarded as practicing mind control, and would later threaten the psychiatrist Dr. Gerlenter with the exact same words "You Are Next".

Ricardo showed that Ted attended Harvard at the same time as Dr. Adams agent. And Ricardo showed that Dr. Adams worked with an associate who worked with Dr. Murray, who did experiments with Ted at Harvard. Ricardo also showed Dr. Adams wrote article that Ted would have hated enough so that Dr. Adams could have been on his death lists. And I showed that Ted lived one mile from Dr. Adams office. So there are several ways Dr. Adams could have come to Ted's attention, including the newspaper articles on his big house and feminist wife, and Ted hated both feminists and psychiatrists, and had envy and hatred of people who were successful. He later mailed a bomb to a person based in part on a photo spread about that persons big house and success. Maybe Ted mailed this card, and as Foreigner showed, there are some good reasons to think this card sended sent in the other card, and may have been Zodiac.

I'm not sure then the significance of pointing out Ted's proximity to this doctor's office, etc.

Well I think Zodiac sent this card to Dr. Adams. If so why did Z pick Dr. Adams? Ricardo discovered several possible connections between TK and Dr. Adams. Possible ways Ted could have found out about Dr. Adams. I also point out the newspaper articles that mention Dr. and Mrs. Adams as another way TK/Z could have found out about them. Finally I mention that Ted lived only a mile from Dr. Adams office which is one other way Ted could have become aware of him.

It fits your bill...I get why you would want to defend that stuff. I won't debate it with you. I have pointed out what I believe and you have every right to point out what you believe. Others with POI's will point out why their guy wrote them...it's never ending. So it's up to people to decide for themselves and utilize that information in the way they feel best served.

Well I guess. I am not aware of any other POI who has major connections to Dr. Adams. If you think Z probably or even perhaps sent this card to Dr. Adams, then it is interesting that a known serial killer with a hatred of psychiatrists who is a Z suspect had connections to Dr. Adams.

Possible connections. If you were to prove it, that would be another story.

Zamantha and I went to Dr Adams home yesterday and took pictures. Hard to see it now through all of the tall hedges and trees . We both are very interested in the Adams case.
I think that the sentence :You taught me to mean it" is something that a counselor would say to a parent about how to get you children to behave.
I found that Dr. Adams was connected to family case workers like CPS " Child protective services" who are not the most popular people .

There were many articles in the newspapers about the Adams dating back to the 1950's. There was a lot of "construction " going on at their home during the time of that letter. Construction again plays a part in the idea that Zodiac could have worked in construction. Perhaps he wasn't a client of the doctors ?

Was the Donna Lass letter which showed construction workers at work , a clue to Zodiac ?

My suspect lived on Bancroft in Berkeley, only two blocks from Dr Adams office.

I think this possible Zodiac card to Dr Adams is a very interesting clue that should be explored more, and may be of interest to several suspects. I thought the workers on the Lass card may be a reference to a body being buried. Certainly Dr Adams had a lot of work done on his house, so workers would have been there to see it.

Ted lived very close to the office of Dr Adams. Ted also called a psychiatrist and said the exact words on this card, "You are next". Ted hated psychiatrists and had dreams of killing them.
