Posted: Thu Jul 17, 2014 2:19 pmStrangely apposite. I'm reading a true life book now about an academic who became severely depressed after 9/11. The tragedy in New York was just the precursor - not the cause - but his horrendous state of mind makes for gripping reading.
Back then, and I think mainly in the US, the huge fear was anthrax in the mail. This poor chap saw anthrax, ricin attacks, poisoned Tylenol and postal-bombs everywhere. He was so terrified about envelopes, parcels, neighbours, strangers etc. that he hardly ever went outside.
Eventually he recovered.
