The memory of that day 12 years ago is very vivid. I watched it live,I remember seeing as the 2nd plane struck the other tower, and instantly knowing that we were under attack. Within 2 days, the skies were empty of planes after the FAA ordered no flights, and I remember talking to some of the guys out in the parking lot of my work, when suddenly, a jet fighter shot over us out to the west. We looked out in the distance to see where the jet was going, and saw a large airplane flying towards us, with a 2nd jet next to it 'escorting' it. (I worked very close to McGuire AFB in NJ). As the two jets escorted the bigger plane in, and they got into a landing position, they passed right over our parking lot, at a very low altitude. It was then that we could see the markings & insignia, and that the plane we were looking at was Air Force One, with George Bush on board. He landed over at the base, and then boarded a chopper that took him to NYC and to ground zero.
I also vividly remember how people all over the country, from all walks of life and backgrunds, races, etc united to support the victims, and the heroes that tried to help, but wound up giving their lives. That was a terrible moment in our history, but in the long run, it opened our eyes, and was a wake up call for us. Let's hope that it never happens again.
