Ghost Stories

Postby traveller1st » Wed Sep 18, 2013 10:54 pm

I'm creating this thread in the run up to Halloween. I know we're all grown ups but sometimes weird stuff happens and we all like like mysteries otherwise we wouldn't be here. So, in that respect, post you're weird and wonderful and spooky experiences. Lets tell each other ghost stories and have some fun. I would go first but I'd rather you didn't all need therapy lol. I'll only tell you pg ones. :D

I don't believe in ghosts, paranormal activities, life after death, poltergeists, etc. But I did have one weird experience that I can't really explain.

It involved a Ouija board, an old one, made in 1967 or so. Right about the time that Parker Bros. took them over. It was the old style, where the board was
made of wood and the planchette was made of Bakelite or some sort of older plastic. My grandmother was TERRIFIED of them, and would not allow one in her
house, or even near her. She said they were the work of the devil.

She actually (almost) convinced me at the time that the Parker Bros. toy company was evil incarnate. I was an impressionable youth.

Fast forward to 1977 or so. I, and a good friend of mine from school were playing with the board. We did the usual things, tried to use it as a "medium" to talk to
dead relatives, etc. But I had an odd idea. I said "hey, what if we tape an ink pen to this thing, and see if it can work a maze!" I didn't actually have a maze for
it to solve, so I created one. (I used to make them all the time, in school.) So we did.

We taped the pen to the planchette, taped the maze to the board, set the pen to the start of the maze, put our hands on the planchette and closed our eyes.

The damned thing started moving! It moved up, left, down, up, left, right, down, left, up down. We felt all of this without seeing. It finally stopped. When it stopped,
it had actually WORKED THE MAZE! Now, it was not perfect, it passed through some lines a bit, but it was mostly accurate. This experience still kind of freaks me out.

I guess it is the Ideomotor phenomenon. But I still can't really explain it. Yes, this actually happened. We both had our eyes closed. I don't believe in the paranormal.
But I don't quite know how to explain this one.

That's brilliant Glurk and so apt that it involved puzzles. I have a few I will tell that has reminded me of one that I'd forgotten about. This one is in a similar vein but less impressive. Creeped us out at the time.

I was in my mid teens and a few of us were hanging out at a mate's house and we decided to try the ouija board thing. We didn't actually have one so we cobbled something together involving a bible a key a glass and probably a crudely drawn board of some sort. The bible and the key were something to do with an old tale that said if you placed a key in the pages of revelation at the passage that referred to the Devil being chained you could summon him woooooo lol.

I don't even remember what we did but it lasted all of about 10 mins and we decided to hell with this and threw the 'board' in the bin and put the bible, the key and the glass away.

(Weird I had to restart my computer, my keyboard locked up)

Anyway, a few more minutes passed and we heard something in the kitchen. At first we though it was just the kittens in their newspaper lined box. We heard it again and it didn't sound like that, it sounded like something being moved or shuffled across the floor. Assuming it was still the kittens we decided to check. The makeshift ouija board (on A4 paper) had somehow found it's way out of the bin and was lying on the kitchen floor. The kittens were all huddled together in one corner of their box.

We took the box and the kittens into the living room. Went back for the 'board' and took it to the front door to burn it. When we put the match to it the thing went up like it had been soaked in petrol and we threw it into the garden and ran back inside lol.

A few more minutes passed and the kittens got up and the hair went up on their backs and they were all hissing and growling at the wall in the living room that is shared with the kitchen on the other side. It took a moment for the penny to drop, we'd forgotten about the glass. So once again, huddled together for safety, we ventured into the kitchen. We switched on the light and the door to the cupboard where we had returned the glass to was lying wide open.

Right, again to the front door, with the glass this time. We tossed it high into the air so that it would come down on the concrete path. It did and it bounced about 3 or 4 times before coming to rest, upright, at the end of the path and not even chipped. Again, we ran back inside.

My mate's mother returned home later that night and wanted to know why there was burnt paper in the garden and one of her glasses sitting in the middle of the path. I'm pretty sure we made something up.

In the late 70's I was 19-20 and dating a girl 17 1/2 yr old named Angie .Just casual dating , as she knew she was going to college next year also she dated others too. We talked on the phone a lot, but getting a date was sort of hap-hazard. One sept.friday night when I called she said ..hey lets go to a haunted house tonight . I drove over to her home before dark and found out that her 15-16 year old sister and a girl freind were also going. Which was kind of a bummer until I saw them. It was a hot day and Both were wearing tight short terrycloth short shorts and tube tops and they were 5' 95 #s and very cute , I had seen Angie's sister before but not like this . I drove up and they got in my 70 Chevelle ,when the friend got in on the drivers side I leaned forward with the seat back to let her in ,her long silky blondish hair flowed over me ,with nice perfume and I lost my train of thought for a minute ... did I mention the short shorts and tube tops and nice tans ? ... ok I am getting to the haunted house part.
It was downtown in a old warehouse , as we stood in a long line to get in and checking out the other people going threw it too , I noticed some of the guys working there seemed to know and say hi to the sisters friend . Something else seemed odd to me was the group wating in line was mostly teens 13-16,17 but there were a few 40 ish men waiting to go threw and one such 35-40 yr old man had just gone threw the house and exited and then got back in line to go again and seemed to check out at the hot girls noticibly ,but then every one was .
Finnally getting in ,just Angie and I were together , snakeing through the 10-12 different dark scary rooms . these places had a steep blind slide 3 story at the end ,but the last room before was a huge 80x 150 ft ? total dark room except for the slight blacklight behind a curtain that you came threw and a red exit light that was only turned on every 3-5 minutes or so.
I was in front of Angie as we entered but soon noticed I was alone .You wonder around and have to keep you hand in front to fell where you are going ,and bumping into others there was maybe 1 guy dressed as a spooky character with a flashlight on himself from time to time ,girls lightly screaming ,screatching .
After 2 minutes of your eyes a justing to the dark you could make out figures a little I was trying to find Angie and called her name lightly when a girl grabbed me from behind and I turned and felt for her grabbed her waist feeling and softly said Angie with out a answer,I move my hands upward from the waist and felt the tube top and long silky hair and heard a soft "no" as to her being Angie
I took one hand off ,...but she didn't and hers were moving over certain normally private areas of my person. well after a minute or so I had had enough of this . I drifted over to the exit light ,Angie had gone there from the start I said lets go she said not untill we find her sister and friend and I went looking and calling as she stayed there I saw a group of figures over in a corner and in the center was the same girl friend lets just say I understand why the tube tops and skimpy shorts
after we all exited I noticed the same older guy that had gone again was exiting ,with my high school industrial arts teacher both very sweaty.
