Oh and why not, a little brownstone since I'm learning to play both of these at the moment.

On that note, I've built a Les Paul copy. I started with the body bought off Ebay and then purchased the rest from the same. It's built now and playable but still needs some refining such as filing down the nut to the right height and refinishing the frets. It is, at the moment, unbranded. I was considering several different options including some contrived moniker involving my own name. I was however considering dedicating it to Cheri Jo Bates and giving it Her name. I would like to know what you guys think. Would that be a nice thing to do or would it be inappropriate and cheap?

I think it's nice that you would consider naming your guitar after Cheri Jo. I guess it would depend on whether or not you were going to put her name on it and if so, where. I'm thinking that your friends or others might ask why you've named the guitar after Cheri, which would lead to your explaining who Cheri was and possibly getting into the whole Zodiac saga. That whole scene might be more than you've bargained for.

If, however, you were discreet about putting the name somewhere that was not obvious you could probably avoid the questions.

À La Claire Fointaine:

This version is quite nice. The woman singer may have learned it phonetically as her French is rather odd, but it only adds to the song's beauty. In my opinion, this is the nicest version I have heard.

The song originated, from what I understand, in New France (Quebec) in the 1600's. It is sometimes included in collections of children's songs, because of the simplicity of the tune, but it is popular with adults, and the theme is on adult love.

Take care,

G

How about..."Stay", by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs? And I'm not being cute, either. I'm seventy-four, and the doo-wop of the Sixties is part of my heritage. "Stay" was the Zodiacs' major hit--and rightfully so: a catchy tune, with all the nostalgic flavor of the D.A. Era. (D.A.=Duck's Ass, for the benefit of you kiddies. It referred to the ubiquitous male swept-back hair parted vertically in back so it looked like, well, a duck's ass).
