6.0 Earthquake in Napa

Around 3:30 this morning there was a 6.0 earthquake in Napa. There is extensive damage and many injured. I have not heard of deaths but there are critically injured. Most of my family lives in Napa. My daughters home is trashed, windows and sliding glass door blown out, foundation severely cracked, big cracks in walls and anything that was on a flat surface or in shelves is on the floor. My son faired much better and though he has damage to his home it's no where near what my daughter suffered. I still haven't heard from my brother who lives in a 100+ year old home but I heard via my niece that my brother and his wife are okay.

Much of the electricity is out in Napa. A big water main broke so the water was shut down and there is no water to the fire hydrants to fight the fires. The fire trucks carry water, about 500 gallons, and they are focusing on any fires not spreading to adjacent structures and letting the homes burn. From what I can surmise this is taking place in a couple of the mobile home parks.

On the Zodiac front, the Sam Kee Laundry is heavily damaged. It's now called the Vintners Collective and it has been featured on the TV news. The Sam Kee Laundry is next to the now defunct Napa Car Wash where Zodiac made his call after the LB attack.

Just saw this. I don't watch the news so I didn't find out until I signed on.

Glad your family is ok Seagull. One of the worst things is dealing with the aftermath and fear of it happening again.

Here is a link to some photographs as provided by the community and KTVU. Some good examples of why we are told to fasten furniture and TV's, etc. to the walls.

Thanks everyone! I am so glad no one in my family was injured. I have finally heard from my brother and although they suffered a lot of breakage their home came out in good shape. The power is still out in many areas, some don't have water and some don't have gas. It really could have been a lot worse and things can be replaced. You can't replace people though so it is fortunate no one was killed.

I was able to find a couple of picture of the Sam Kee Laundry online.
