Any fans out there? I'm jamming a band called Spacefog right now. First time hearing them. Very good stuff! Definitely influenced by Sleep and Sabbath. If anyone else is into this type of music, I would love to discuss it.

Currently I prefer to throw 'doors' instead of 'stones' and 'iron'..Riders on the storm is a very nice one..obviously referring to the Z industry, too..

Hey ophion, something else we got in common. Bit of a stoner here too. Though being in my mid 30s now, I try to restrict it to weekends (try being the operative word). Never understood the attraction of stoners to metal, but getting baked and listening to Sabbath or Zeppelin go together like hot wings and beer. Do they count as stoner metal?

Sabbath for sure. I consider them the band that started the doom/stoner metal style. You can hear their influence in most of those types of bands. Sleep is one of the better known ones. Then there's Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan a ton of them, and you can hear the Sabbath influence. Another cool band is Pentagram. They formed in the early 70's and had a Sabbath sound as well. Pentagram came close to making it big a few times, but their singer kept messing it up. There is a really cool documentary about him (Bobby Leibling) called Last Days Here. The guy is kind of a weirdo crackhead, but it's a good story. You should check it out if you get a chance. The full documentary is on youtube.

I like My Dying Bride. I'm more of a melodic death/trash kind of guy.

Lmao..stoner metal..okay I'll add to it..Use to listen to alot of Black Sabbath in my early teens..My friends parents had an nice stereo system with pretty damn big speakers. We use to get baked..lay on the floor an turn the speakers towards each other with our heads in between them an listen to the the first song from their first album..The gentle rain storm with thunder an lightning in the distance soon gave way to the loud guitar an crashing drums literally shaking us off the floor. We all thought it was the coolest shit ever,AC/DC's Night Prowler and Aldo Nova's Fantasy also got the played the same way haha...

"Stoner Metal" is just the name of the style. Not sure why. I guess it all started out in California, there were a bunch of bands that would go play out in the desert and they started this cool little scene. This was mid-80s I think. I don't think anyone actually called it "Stoner Metal" until the mid or late 90s. I know most of the bands were big potheads, some even sang about marijuana. One band, Bongzilla, pretty much sings about nothing but marijuana. Great band btw. An old band I was in played a show with them. It was a blast! When I used to smoke a lot, I would listen to a lot of these bands, plus old stuff like Pink Floyd, The Doors, Sabbath etc. But I would also listen to more extreme stuff; death metal, grindcore, black metal, thrash. It had nothing to do with being stoned. I have always loved that type of music and always will. Stoned or not, that's what I always listen to. I guess the stoner metal bands are a little better to listen to when you're baked, because it's not as aggressive as other forms of metal. It's more laid back. Acid Bath is the best band to listen to when you are stoned. Give it a try sometime. Listen carefully to the lyrics, they will trip you out!!
