Newspaper articles

Postby entropy » Tue Dec 03, 2013 1:08 pm

Wasn't sure where to comment on this but I think Tahoe and Seagull deserve HUGE kudos for assembling a chronological record of SF Chronicle articles about the case.

viewtopic.php?f=94&t=1193

I almost forgot about it since it's a locked thread but this is an absolutely fantastic resource. I'm convinced that Zodiac read the Chronicle regularly for articles about himself and was compelled to write at least once and probably more in direct response to a Chronicle article. There is a thread waiting to be written on that subject and I can almost guarantee that I'll be referring to something in the above thread in some future post.

Many thanks for the hard work!

I had the same quandary Entropy but in the end I settled for PM'ing my thanks and making mention of it in WC's thread as it had already paid dividends.

It's is so much easier now to cross reference the things that zodiac wrote, with possible reasons for writing them, against what appeared in the Chron regarding the case.

Just reading through the articles themselves in order is quite chilling because you can almost put yourself in the position of the press and the public at the time only knowing what little they knew then.

Yes, indeed. A congratulatory thread is most definitely warranted.

Well thank you! All of you.

It was great working with Seagull and putting this all together. I know she made many trips to the library and it paid off...tremendously.

It really was an exciting challenge and one I think we ALL needed to see completed. It truly does help put a perspective on things.

I was updating it so much I decided to lock it. Maybe I should unlock or copy the thread?

I heartily concur. I have not yet had the time to benefit from your efforts, but I was extremely impressed. You deserve a huge thank-you from all of us. Here comes mine now...

Thank-you!!!

Thanks for the thanks, everyone! I think the Chronicle articles especially are good to have because Zodiac wrote most of his letters to the paper. And a huge thank you to Tahoe for organizing everything and creating all those links for the images.

I'm thinking that we should keep the thread locked so that Tahoe can continue to post more articles, they will stay in order and can be easily referenced. If posts get made between the articles and /or the articles get quoted in that thread there would be duplication and confusion!

The articles can be copied and put in posts in any of the threads for discussion.

I agree and saves me typing my own reason (which was the same) lol. Thanks Deb. :D

This collection of articles is very good...it clears up that Charles Jarman, who was murdered shortly after a series of Z letters, actually was a victim of Brommell ( SF Chronicle 01-31-1970).

Robert Salem, btw, was killed by Stanley Dean Baker (22) and Harry Allen Stroup (20) wgi confessed to this murder, referring themselves to Satanism and the cult of the Grand Chingon as well as the 4-Pi-movement, also mentioning three other human 'sacrifices'.
