Why has no one mentioned "Silence of the Lambs" yet??? It's a masterpiece! Maybe it's not technically in the horror genre... but it has some classic horrific scenes.
I also really liked
"The Orphanage". I think I had PTSD after watching that.

Trav, I liked that 1979 version of Dracula the best too, the Frank Langella version, right? The vampire girls in that one were pretty creepy, especially the one carrying the baby into the tomb. Did you like the Gary Oldman version of Dracula? I am partial to that one, when my Wife was younger, she was a dead ringer for Winonah Ryder. Oldman is one of my favorite actors, he was great in Dracula, JFK, True Romance, and everything else, and I know you must have seen Sid & Nancy.

I watched
The Conjuring, very well done and a reasonably accurate account of the paranormal activities that went down plus the investigators.
I've also read volume one of the series written by the eldest daughter.

Let's not forget Rosemary's Baby.
(A bit of off-topic trivia: There is a mountain called Rosemary's Baby in British Columbia, Canada in the Valhalla Mountain Range, which also includes some hellish names like Mt. Diablo, Satan's Peak, Mephistopheles, Lucifer, Black Prince and Trident as well as a bunch of names from Norse mythology such as Asgard, Banshee, Dag, Freya, Gimli, Midgard, Urd and Woden. There's a Thor and and Odin Mountain nearby as well. Rosemary's Baby was named after the movie. I believe there is a mountain or a peak called the Exorcist, too, but I may have imagined it since I could not find it.)

Yup that's the one morf with Frank Langella. I did like the Gary Oldman one, very much so. There's an old clip of him from the 80's and I now wonder if it wasn't him doing a sort of cameo appearance. I can't rem what it's from but I think it was either Coronation St or Emmerdale and he's dressed a bit like Sid I suppose so it could have been promotion for the the film. Anywho it's a short appearance at the bar and one of the older female characters eyes him with suspicion and asks rather snidely "Who are you supposed to be?", he sneers at her and replies "Dracula" and then grins. Can't find it online or I would have posted a link. Though that was a nice little coincidence.

Watched it this morning. As soon as the first phone call happened, I started remembering the movie. Haven't seen it forever, and never would have remembered the name. Thanks, it was nice to watch again.

Filmed in Pittsburgh area, not far from me. The reporter at the end of the movie is "Chilly" Billy Cardilly... who hosted "Chiller Theater" (they played old horror movies) for years when I was a kid.
The sequel (Dawn of the Dead) was awesome as well. It was mainly shot at the Monroeville Mall outside of Pittsburgh.
I like all the ones morf mentioned, except for "black christmas", which I don't remember. I'll have to watch it now.
I also want to mention "Jaws". Most people don't think of it as a horror movie, but it scared the crap out of me when my dad took us to the theater to see it while vacationing at the beach.
Yep use to wait to my parents went to bad and would sneak down and watch Chilly Billy. As for Dawn of The Dead I always thought it was filmed in the Johnstown mall and not Monroeville but maybe I'm wrong.

Speaking of tv horror, anybody ever watch the NIGHT STALKER? It had the Dad from Christmas Story in it, Darren McGavin? Another creepy show
Yep love that show as a kid and still watch them even though the special effects are laughable now. My two favorite eps was the Werewolf and Jack the Ripper and to bad they didn't make a Zodiac one. All the eps was good though and the remake show of it sucked. The original one is what inspired Chris Carter to do X-Files. Oh yep Daren McGavin is correct.
