Favorite Horror Movies

Postby morf13 » Thu Oct 17, 2013 2:53 pm

In honor of Halloween, figured it would be fun to start a thread of people's favorite horror movies. Hope everybody jumps in.

Growing up in the 80's, I was a huge horror fan,and had lots of great movies to watch(and bad ones too). My favorites are:

Halloween 1 & 2, only the originals, not the many sequals, not the remakes.

Any other John Carpenter movie, The Fog,one of my faves, Also, 'The Thing', awesome effects for 1980. And although they are not scary, I love 'They Live' and Big trouble in little China.

The Exorcist, still scares me, always gotta turn the lights on

Amityville Horror, Ghost Story, The Howling, American Werewolf in London, also some of my faves

I really love Black Christmas(the original),a really great & creepy movie, another one of my faves.

Almost any Zombie movie by George Romero, Dawn of the Dead, Day Of The Dead, Nightof the living dead.

Some other great ones, Dark night of the scarecrow, the entire Friday the 13th series, ALIEN, The Shining, The sixth sense.

Sure I will add to this list as I remember more..

I like the 60's version, thought it was from the late 60's???? It was in black and white. They did a remake of it in the 90's which was pretty cool, and good effects/zombies.

Let me begin by mentioning the horror movies I DON'T like, e.g., those in which the "monster" is unkillable, such as Jason, Michael, et cetera. The victims in these movies might as well be poked into a meatgrinder. I insist that the baddie's posterior be as vulnerable as are his victims'.
Hee are some of my favorites: "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (original version, with Kevin McCarthy). and "Diabolique" (even though sub-titled). Another favorite--or favorites, really--are both versions of "The Thing". I can't tell you how many sequels I've plotted for the 80s version! Think of it! The Thing, rescued by the Air Force, and brought to America! Hehehehe....

Filmed in Pittsburgh area, not far from me. The reporter at the end of the movie is "Chilly" Billy Cardilly... who hosted "Chiller Theater" (they played old horror movies) for years when I was a kid.

The sequel (Dawn of the Dead) was awesome as well. It was mainly shot at the Monroeville Mall outside of Pittsburgh.

I like all the ones morf mentioned, except for "black christmas", which I don't remember. I'll have to watch it now.

I also want to mention "Jaws". Most people don't think of it as a horror movie, but it scared the crap out of me when my dad took us to the theater to see it while vacationing at the beach.
